I have used AutoGK for a could of XVid encodes. The orginal source is 16:9 with 2 channel AC3 sound. When I used quot;Autoquot; for audio output, it got a 111 kb/s mp3 file...according to GSpot. I re-encoded the same source, but this time set the audio to 128...but GSpot still shows 111. Am I missing something?
Also, I went through the Doom9 guide for Gordian Knot. I got a good encode, but I noticed that AutoGK gave me a resolution of 688 x 384. Gordian Knot gave me a resolution of 640 x 352. Why such the difference? Is Gordian Knot more accurate?
As a side note, AVI.Net gave a resolution of 640 x 368. Thanks for your help!
Hi-
The audio is ABR or Average Bit Rate. Sometimes you'll wind up a little bit above the average and sometimes a bit below the average. I wouldn't worry about it.
As for the resolution; AutoGK determines the resolution based on the result of the compression test, the audio size, and the total file size you set. This assumes you had it set for Auto, and didn't pick a fixed horizontal width.
GKnot, on the other hand, doesn't choose anything, so I'm not sure what you mean by it gave you a resolution of 640x352. Do you mean that the results of the compression test said that would be your best resolution? Or do you mean that it was by default set for 640 width, and after cropping it left you with 640x352? If so, you could have chosen just about any resolution you might have wanted, even the same one that AutoGK gave you.
I don't know anything about AVI.NET, so I can't comment.
Yes, after the compression test in Gknot and some tweaking, it showed the optimal resolution was 640x352, which gave me 84% of the quality. If I remember right, I could have put the resolution at 704x384 with 66.3% quality. Which leads me to another question, would it be wiser to raise the resolution and lower the quality percentage?
One more question, sorry, I'm new at GKnot. When I used Robot4Rip, it ripped the AC3 audio and then converted it to mp3. I noticed in the file name that the AC3 had a 5 ms delay, but the mp3 file did not have any delay. When I have GKnot mux in the sound, should I add that delay back in or should I have GKnot encode the AC3 file?
Hi-
OK, that explains it. First, AutoGK allows Mod16 resolutions (resolutions divisible by 16), so if you had set your H-Modul to 16 from the default 32, and also looked for Compress Test results of around 70% (I think) as does AutoGK, then you would also have gotten the same resolution as AutoGK gave you. If you're asking me, and you are, then I would say that you don't need to aim for as high of a percentage from the Compression Test as you did.
As you can tell from reading Doom9's guide for Robot4Rip:
r4r-guide.htm
the log (down near the bottom) shows that it takes the delay into account, so all you'll have to do is to just mux the audio, without having to worry about the delay any more. If you still have your Robot4Rip log, yours should say something similar. |
