filters for frame based or field based video dvd, everything, difference, different

while reading some posts recently about chromashift and denoising, someone made the comment that some filters work better if frame based(verses field based). is this true? my current projects deal with converting some vhs to dvd, for use on regular tv, so i've been keeping everything interlaced througout the prosess. while experimenting with different scripts i haven't seen much difference in the before and after product. now i am still in the learning process, but is it benificial to convert to frame based then filter then convert back to interlaced for the encoding.
why is it that when your seaching for a particular answer, you always comeup with more questions about something else. sometimes i wonder if this whole process is with the time and trouble, but what else could i be doing to have this much fun.
