Oh no, not another ASPI question
I have suddenly (I think) started having quot;Unable to initialize ASPI managerquot; error messages in authoring programs. I haven't used either of these in a while. TMPGEnc and Nero work fine but Spruce and DVDit can't find my drives. I'm running XP and have tried updating to 4.71.2 then using forceaspi to go back to 4.60 (killaspi, instaspi) then back to 4.71.2. I even read somewhere that deleting WOWPOST.EXE in XP can solve problems. Nothing's worked. ASPICHK shows the 4 files (ASPI32.SYS, WOWPOST.EXE, WINASPI.DLL, WNASPI32.DLL) installed but the quot;ASPI is installed and fully functionalquot; report is greyed out. Does anyone know what ASPI files should be installed in what directories in XP? Does anyone know what the registry should look like? And while I'm at it, does anyone know of a downloadable fixer other than forceaspi?
Check it in DVD Decrypter. Just go into the settings and switch it to use ASPI instead of SPTI.
It will soon tell you if there is a problem and will give you a real error too!
Another little added gem from DVD Decrypter. I did that and got a detailed error report. It means absolutely nothing to me but it's more info than I had before. The problem seems to be with my CD-RW drive. When I switched back to SPTI in DVD Decrypter I got a SPTI error report on the same drive. How can the drive itself cause these errors while it still reads and writes without problems and windows says it is installed properly and working? There is no mention of my 104 DVD-r drive. I tried disabling the drive in windows, no change I tried disabling it in the BIOS, no change. With both of these all that changed was that the drive letter (F disappeared in the DVD Decrypter error report. I tried uninstalling the drive and then reinstalling it with no change. This cannot be a hardware problem.
In case there's some genius out there that can actually interpret this hexidecimal mumbo-jumbo, I've included my error reports.

You must have an old version of DVD Decrypter. The latest version wouldnt give you that error.
Make sure you dont have I/O Debug mode enabled either.
Its a harmless error and is expected from that drive. Follow what I've said above and you wont have the problem.
I downloaded the latest version of DVD Decrypter and no longer get an error message even in ASPI mode. Why is it your program which costs let me see.........um.....NOTHING! can ingnore/debug the ASPI layer yet DVDit which costs hundreds of $ can't even give a useful error message. It IS a harmless error since Windows Media Player, DVD Decrypter/ingtool, Nero, MusicMatch, and more I can't think of right now have no problems burning but DVDit which is my only means of turning compliant MPEG-2 files into a DVD is crippled by it. I E-mailed them a week ago for tech support on this and have heard nothing.
As soon as Ebay puts some cash in my Paypal account I'll donate to your cause. Thanks. |
