Which program tp use ???? understand, something, involved, programs

Gday all,

There was a program going around which incorporated several programs (dvddecrypter, dvd2one, ifoupdate i think) and was wondering if anyone is/has worked on something like this ?

If so, what package do people use ?

Visual Basic, c++ etc.etc. ?

Is there any other groups, other than here at doom, that are involved actively in this ?

As i am trying to understand more of the ins and outs of such programs, any help would be appreciated.
