Copying a copy usin DVDXCOPY

Is it just me or can you NOT copy a copy using DVDXCOPY?  I let my friend at school borrow my Black Hawk Down DVD and I forgot to get it back from him.  Good thing I made an original.  However, when I went to copy my copy (just in case) DVDXCOPY doesn't even recognize that the disc is even in the player.  I tried to copy using other copied DVD's I have and none of them worked.  I know DVDXCOPY works because I tried to copy an 'original' DVD and it was fine.  What's up with that?  Doesn't make any sense.  I just upgraded to version 1.5.  Anyone else have any experience with the same problem?  Does DVDXCOPY or 321 studios have any thoughts of changing this?

I remember seeing a post on this a while back. You're correct, you cannot copy it.  You have to decrypt the dvd to the hard drive and then copy it.  Good luck.

Thanks for the reply.  How do you do that?  Do you need a special program?  Which one?

try DVD Decrypter

Search this site for a how to link.  There's a free program called dvd decrypter, download it and when you open it, make sure you highlight everything and hit the decrypt button (when you open the program, it highlights the main movie files, I did it that way and it didn't work for me so I just highlight everything)  Once it decrypts everything, you're ready to burn it to dvd.  You don't need dvdxcopy to copy the final product if it's less than 4.37gb in size.  Just create a VIDEO_TS folder and and AUDIO_TS folder (make sure these folders are capitalized) and drag the decrypted stuff in to the VIDEO_TS folder; the AUDIO_TS folder is just a dummy file and nothing goes in there, Now you're ready to burn away using Nero or Recordnow Max.  (In nero, open the dvd video tab and the folders should be created for you, you just drag your decrypted info into the VIDEO_TS folder. If its' bigger than 4.37, you may want dvdxcopy to put it on two discs, but most people prefer dvd2one to put it on once disc (the program re-enocodes it to fit on one disc and you don't get that annyoing quot;this is a backup onquot; sign in the beginning of the movie.  Do a quot;how toquot; search in this forum, there's a lot of info floating around.  Good luck

Actually, you can just use ISO mode if its already been ripped.
Two clicks and you're all done.

Remember to read the copied disc back in your burner - dvdrom drives dont report the right size and so it will fail.

Thanks for all the help, I know I'm just a newbie at this.  I downloaded DVD Decrypter and DVD2ONE.  I decrypt it fine and I extracted all the files into a VIDEO_TS folder like you said.  THen I go to run DVD2ONE and when it asks for a source and a destination folder I put in the folder where the DVD is on the HD (C:\Mp3\DVD's\THE_BOURNE_IDENTITY\VIDEO_TS) in the source line and on the destination line I just put in what the quot;HOW TO USE DVD2ONEquot; has in their example on their webpage which is c:\movies\VIDEO_TS.  However when I click the start button I get an error that says that dvd2one111.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.  Then it asks me if I want to contact Microsoft about this problem.  What am I doing wrong?  Please help.  I know I could just use DVDXCOPY and be done with it but I want to try to fit DVD on 1 disc.  That would be very appealling (regardless of the minor drop in quality).  Thanks in advance.

Like I said, you dont need dvd2one if its already on a DVDR.
Just read it and then write it using ISO mode in DVD Decrypter.

If it's 4.37gb or smaller just burn it to dvd-r, you don't need dvd2one or dvdxcopy.  To simplify things when I use dvd2one I just create a folder on the desk top ie. movie and decrypt everything into that.  Then I open dvd2one and put that folder in the first section and in the output box I create a new folder ie. final product.  After it transcodes I create a VIDEO_TS folder and drag everything from  the final product folder to there and burn that VIDEO_TS folder.  I'm not sure why you have an error code; I'm guessing either you haven't choosen the correct folder, or you have a bad copy of dvd2one.

ok thanks for all the help.  The DVD is gt;4.37 GB and want to use DVD2ONE to get it on 1 DVD...othewise I can just use my DVDXCOPY perfectly.  I probably got a bad copy of DVD2ONE.  I'll try to DL it again.  Thanks.
