Would This Work To Defeat DRM?
1. Play the DRM video as you normally would on your computer but connect a stand alone dvd recorder to your video and audio outs in the back of your PC. With the DVD Recorder burn DRM vids to a dvd+rw.
2.Then put the dvd+rw into the dvd player/burner in your pc.
3. Rip the vob files to your hard drive and do whatever you want with them!
Opinions Please!
Assuming no analog copy protection (i.e. Macrovision) is used, that would work, but that's kind of beside the point. I think you'll find that when most people talk about cracking DRM, they're talking about removing DRM and getting to the original data without any loss or compromise of quality.
You could argue that one could circumvent any video copy protection scheme by pointing a camcorder at the screen and recording. Same goes for audio - just hook up a tape recorder to the playback device.
Also, your method wouldn't scale well for HD video.
Re-recording video in the method you suggested would mean converting the digital data to analog and back to digital, which can only reduce the quality. There are other more effective methods.
