5.1 to stereo

Ok I'm sure that this has been answered many times but I couldnt find anything specific. I have IFO and VOB files on my hard disk created by DVD Decrypter. They include 6 channel, 5.1 audio, but I need to convert them to stereo. Could someone please tell me how to do this? Many thanks in advance.

The simplest way to covert is BeLight, use search to find about BeLight

Hi!

Please clarify - Do you want to simply extract the audiostream from the DVD and convert it to stereo format and save it to a NEW SEPARATE AUDIO FILE?

OR

Do you want to extract the audiostream from the DVD and convert it to stereo format and PUT IT BACK INTO THE DVD, as a replacement for the original audiostream?

I'd like to convert the stream to stereo and then re-include it into the DVD, as a replacement. Is this possible?

May I ask why you would want to do this? Virtually all standalone DVD players can, if need be, automatically downmix 5.1 .AC3 audio to stereo...

You certainly can. I'm converting a dvd to put on my son's PSP. It can only take stereo input.

It will play fine on the PSP. I've played a DVD with only 5.1 AC3 audio on a PSP before and it worked perfectly.

Well i'm definately having problems with the sound. Is there a way to do what I asked?

That's strange. Is it 5.1 AC3?

Yes it is. Perhaps I should try another audio codec?

I am sorry to be so blunt, but no way anyone's playing a movie with a 5.1 AC3 track on a PSP. The thing simply does not support it.

Rossheth, the must be dedicated all-in-one solutions on Windows (I guess that's what you use) to do DVD to PSP, which automatically downmix to stereo if needed. There are for Mac OS X (well, not all in one, maybe all in two) at least. I'd go for one of those and forget about what codec uses what.

I used AutoGK to convert to VBR mp3. Problem solved

Hi!

Perhaps you're speaking of a full-sized Playstation, while quot;Rosshethquot; is speaking of a Playstation Portable (quotSPquot;)...

Oops, yes you're right. I mean t PS2. Sorry

Briefly, converting a 5.1 AC3 to a 2 channel AC3 can be done using Besweet or Belight as frontends. The command line might look like

BeSweet.exequot; -core( -input quot;6channel.ac3quot; -output quot;2channel.ac3quot; ) -azid( -d 2/0 --maximize ) -ac3enc( -b 192 )
