recently noticed that when i compress a file using any codec, the colors don't come out as rich as the original file. the new file has a whiter tone as well. is there some option that is doing this?
is there place i can post pic to show what i mean?
Pictures would surely help ( convert them to the png format, and attach it to your post. When a moderator sees it, he will validate it ).
But more details on your encoding setting are needed. Which codec did you use ? Which filters ? From which were you encoding ( dvd, dv, uncompressed avi... ) ? With what did you watch your encoded movie ?
hmm, this is very odd. i can't take screenshot of source video capture. it just shows a black area where video should be. any ideas? i really wish i could show picture.
i've tried using no filters. my source are captures made off of avi_io in mjpeg. i use media player classic 6431 to playback.
try this yourself, open a capture with media player classic and also open it in virtual dub. compare preview screen with player. they look different. virtual dub makes it whiter and less rich in colors.
i've tried captures off of my leadtek 2000xp software in mpeg. same thing happens.
VirtualDub uses the VfW interface, so you'll see the video unaltered. When you open it in a player you'll get a video overlay (most of the time with post-processing as well) because it interfaces with DirectShow. That's why they look different.
Ps. You can't take screenshots from a player because of this overlay, but you can use VDub. Just open your encoded video and press CTRL+1. Open any graphic edit program and paste it there and save.
Sense your video is being played in overlay mode, and you say it is whiter then normal, you might want to check the display option of your video driver. I know that my driver likes to reset the brightness whenever I watch tv on my computer, and I have to turn it back up to get the movies I make to look normal. Your computer may be setting it too high and making it look whiter then it should.

When your encoded file is played back, a DirectShow playback filter may be used, whereas it isn't when you use VirtualDub. Check the settings on your DirectShow playback filter.
thanks for all responses.
tinkered around with many things. best solution seems to be using ffdshow for divx playback. colors look like original now. don't know why that was happening. used divx502 for playback before. i'm pretty sure that's what fixed it, although it could be something else since i changed so many small settings. |
