In Gordian Knot, after the compressibility check or the end of the first pass, there is no log file created. Then I get errors that the log file cannot be opened and that the bitrates cannot be recalculated. Also, the % values cannot be loaded after the compressibility check. This machine also has VirtualDub 1.5.1 loaded in another location. This is occuring in both Windows 98 and Windows XP.
Hello, and welcome to Doom9's forum. I hope you find it helpful!
This is a little bit out-of-date, but may point to a possible solution. It's a FAQ from the Gknot forum:
showthread.php?s=amp;threadid=48936
Appreciate the input. I thought I had looked at all the FAQs. I am running DIVx 5.05 and the note says it doesn't support 5.03 as of the writing. Actually, it runs the first pass, produces error messages about not being able to find or use the log, then runs the second pass and produces usable output video, finally merges the audio and makes a useful, but not optimized, .avi file. The only problem seems to be that the log file does not get produced, so Gordian Knot doesn't have anything to use to make adjustments. It just goes ahead without making any changes, but other than that it works fine with the 5.05 Codec.
The compressibility check also does not produce the log file, so there are no numbers to base any manual adjustments on like there were with earlier versions. I installed GKnot .027 at the same time as upgrading to DIVx 5.05, so am not certain which is responsible for not making the log.
I think I found the problem. After the compressibility check, GKnot tries to open a file called LastCompCheck.log (i.e., it says, quot;Trying to open file C:\Progra~1\Gordia~1\LastCompCheck.log). The actual file name produced in C:\Program Files\Gordian Knot\ is LastCompCheck_GKnot.log. Looks like someone changed the name in one place and not in the other. Don't think there is anything I can do to fix this. There is a similar problem with the names after the first pass for actual encoding.
hi and also welcome to the forum
afaik gknot .27 is not compatible with divx 5.03 and above. you have to install the new gknot .28.2b
here is the download page...
it will allow you to use divx 5.05 and the multipass feature. be sure to download the whole package and not only the exe file though, as there are some modified programs included. for example the current release of virtualdubmod does not work with gknot, but the included modified version of course does.
i think this will fix your problems. if you cannot upgrade (or don't want to) you'll have to go back to divx 5.02 or do the encoding itself manually.
hope this helps

Hi, and thanks a lot.
This fixes the log file problem. If you cropped something before with odd numbers, those need to be changed to even - the message is a little unclear about what needs to be changed. The DivX settings screen shows a message that the parameters you have chosen are not compatible with the DivX standard and that the file you produce will not play on commercial equipment. This happens for both the compressibility check and settings for the actual passes. I tried adjusting anything I could, but nothing seems to get rid of this message. It's encoding something now. I'll see if that works with the XCard v2.1 player when it's done. I don't have anything else that might use commercial equipment standards. |
