ati aiw 9700 pro amp; digital cable
I have been using the aiw series along with gemstar guide for recording favorite shows. Now my cable company has gone digital and I can no longer use the guide for recording. I have looked into tivo and replaytv for an external solution, but these do not seem like viable options. Re-recording from tivo to ati for editing and archiving to cd-r or dvd-r. They do not have a direct ouptput to pc. What can I do to get this same functionality on my pc? Do they make a tuner/capture card that works through the digital converter box?
Please help as I capture roughly 8 hours of programming a day and want to keep it simple...
Have they gone completely digital or are just offering digital as an option? My cable company offers digital which gives me hundreds of new channels that are only accessible with their digital box. However I can still receive the lower channels (2 through 117, that's all Comcast offers in my area) directly in my AIW 9700 Pro.
Since most pay channels require a box anyway, I couldn't use my card or VCR to record them without a box to start with.
I actually cancelled my digital subscription because I noticed alot of artifacts, some occasional blockiness, and something I can only describe as though you were looking through dirty plexiglass.
I still have all the networks and 'extended cable' (Discovery, etc) working fine with my AIW. GemStar has never been completely accurate for me (doesn't show History Channel), but close enough. I have noticed a few of my standard stations disappearing from their list recently, even though I still get them.
I know what you mean about the plexiglass look, I hate it too. But unfortunately my cable must be all digital. I tried your suggestion for inputing directly into AIW. (NO LUCK). But I just create a folder of the show I want, setup the ATIScheduler, Create a vcr reminder so the cable box goes to the desired channel at the right time and record that show to the folder. It kinda sucks because I do about 8 hours recording a day but I got it down to about 15 minutes setup time in the morning. |
