Wierdest problem I've seen with PAL DVD...

Hey there,
Just got hold the r2 edition of insomnia (1997 swedish version, not williams/pacino remake). I've come across a really bizarre problem...

I encoded the dvd to DivX 5.02 the usual way using gordianknot, however the encoded file was fully of random blocks. No this isn't macrovision, the disc was unprotected and the vobs play ok on the hard disc. After messing around reinstalling programs and trying different encoders I finally solved it

It turns out I had to FORCE FILM in dvd2avi and lower the FPS to 20! As you know, this is very unusal for a PAL dvd and should only be used on NTSC but it worked! Take a look at the two short clips i've uploaded and compare the differance - can anyone explain how the 25FPS could even cause such artifacts, especially when considering this is how it was encoded on the dvd?

Any help is appreciated, although the 20 fps DivX is fine Im curious as to why this happened. Anyone else had a similar experiance with a PAL dvd?
Cheers

Download clips here, only 1.5mb

Clips were encoded using same resolution, filters and codec parameters - the only differance is the fps set in dvd2avi.

Could it be that the film was actually created on 20fps? It sure looks like that. Could you upload the same part of the original file without resizing and in 25fps, either the VOBs or huffy format?

I dont think it is, when I play the vobs using zoomplayer it reports the average framerate at 24.98... I'll see if I can upload a segment tonight, being on 56k its a pain though

You uploaded the wrong clip, upload a pan scene
