question regarding transport stream (ts) and media player

Im running windows xp sp2 with media player 10 all updates to date and the newest version of nvidia forceware driver suite and the newest version of purevideo.

I got a hdtv movie in ts format. Split into multiple parts. Around 100mb each. Total size of the movie is 15gb.

I can open the first file in media player and it plays fine. But it does not automaticaly load the next file. Also tested in windvd 7. Windvd didnt even wanna play the file. Then i found Theatertek who works like a charm (plays all parts after eachother by just selecting the first part).

Can i get this to work in media player also? I want it to load the entire movie and not just the first file. Just like TheaterTek does. Is it possible?

join the .ts files at commandprompt:

copy /B *partname*.* newname.ts

don't try it on fat32 if your total is bigger than 4gb (or was it 2 , can't remember).

or use my.ts joiner (very basic!)
files/Tsjoiner2.exe

wouldnt it be prefered to have them in smalller files like they are now compared to one huge file? With resources in mind that is.

Must be much heavier to f. example jump in a 15gb file than several small ones?

Drop all of them into the playlist?

I keep running into this issue as well. Is Theatertek really the ONLY player on the market that can seamlessly playback multiple TS files? It has some serious issues (at least on my system), like pausing the movie after a good few minutes seems to take a long time after actually pressing the pause button. An alternative would be quite welcome.

I understand the argument of just joining the TS files into one big file, but that makes it difficult store them any other place than a harddrive.

How powerful is your PC?

I'd say it's pretty powerfull:

Athlon 64 X2 3800 (dual core)
1 gig of fast ram
Ati 1900 XT videocard
Two fast SATA harddrives

my tool can split at dvd-5 size, would still require some disc changing.
i prefer to join and store on my NAS or hd's. much faster playback.

also use the nvidia purevideo codecs and latest beta driver if you own a GF6600 or higher. cpu down to 22% on playback

Yeah, that's what I would suggest too. If you have WMPlayer as the default player, it's easy: just go to Explorer, select al TS files and hit Return. They will be automatically put into a playlist and the stream starts to play.

My computer uses a dual core cpu athlon 64 x2 4200+ with 2gb memory, 2 raptor 10k disks in raid 0, graphic card is 7800gtx. And 1 additional terrabyte of storage.

I dont notice any diffrence even 1080p with quot;use high qualityquot; checked compared to quot;use overlayquot;.

Only problem is if i set it to quot;use high qualityquot; some clips will play with black and white and some weird colors. I suspect this is mpeg4 avc clips. But if i set them to quot;use overlayquot; everything works perfect. Microsofts wmw-hd format works fine with quot;use high qualityquot;

I never notice any problem using TheaterTek to play those files. I just load the first file and it automaticaly takes the next file and so on. Never noticed any pauses or anything. I can jump and so on. Works perfect.

Yea but that playlist wont be in perfect order. Then u have to sort it. And i belive u get a small break between each file. TheaterTek seems to be a bit ahead of time never showing these breakes.

yup it's pause every few seconds, joining or theathertek (don;t use it so i wouldn't know) is probably the way to go.

I tried your Tsjoiner2.exe

I have a problem with it. When it reaches 100% it starts over from 0% again (overwriting the file it just made). It keeps looping.

it shouldn't do that offcourse, don't want to hijack any threads here, but could you post some more info (how many files/size , directory names/filenames) and your windows version?
