I've started using MeGUI and after doing a lot of testing I finally came up with a good profile that I like. But here's the thing, I can't figure out why the encoded file will not play on my PSP if I use more than 1 thread. But it plays just fine in Quicktime. And if the same file is encoded with only 1 thread, it plays without any issues on my PSP v2.5.
I have a dual-core AMD X2 4400+ and it does speed up when using more than 1 thread. So does anyone have a resolution for this issue? Thanks.
Well.. nbthreads = number of slices.. so it looks as if the PSP, or at least the firmware version you have cannot handle more than one slice. Craptime can handle multiple slices since it uses multiple slices itself, but it's otherwise a crappy player and encoder, hence the name
But quite frankly, at PSP resolutions, speed shouldn't be much of an issue, should it? And you can always encode two movies at once using two separate instances of megui.
Doom9, thanks for the explanation. Hopefully a future firmware update from Sony will support more than one slice. I guess in the meantime I will run two instances of Megui like you suggested.
Try using --thread-input as a custom option, too. It's not as fast as two slices (which also implies --thread-input), but putting decoding (and filtering if you do any) in its own thread is still a decent speedup over 1-thread and easier to manage than two at once. |
