Read error on Xfiles disk: Workaround wanted

Read error on Xfiles disk

I’m trying to backup my Xfiles Disk 2, but ran into a problem. The disk wont rip! I get almost completely through and then run into a read error. I thought this may be my drive, so tried it on another machine, but same result. Then get a mates copy of the disk and that does exactly the same too! ARGH!
The error always occurs on the VTS_04_00.BUP file but I’m guessing the VTS_04 set contains nothing significant (I know it doesn’t contain any of the menus or the extras, as these are on the VTS_02 set I am pretty sure).
What I am wondering is, how can I take the rest of the files and make a working disk? The directory structure of the disk is as follows:

18,432 VIDEO_TS.BUP
18,432 VIDEO_TS.IFO
1,693,696 VIDEO_TS.VOB
18,432 VTS_01_0.BUP
18,432 VTS_01_0.IFO
231,424 VTS_01_0.VOB
10,240 VTS_01_1.VOB
139,264 VTS_02_0.BUP
139,264 VTS_02_0.IFO
58,656,768 VTS_02_0.VOB
1,073,739,776 VTS_02_1.VOB
1,073,739,776 VTS_02_2.VOB
1,073,739,776 VTS_02_3.VOB
1,073,739,776 VTS_02_4.VOB
82,462,720 VTS_02_5.VOB
12,288 VTS_03_0.BUP
12,288 VTS_03_0.IFO
7,931,904 VTS_03_1.VOB
22,528 VTS_04_0.BUP
22,528 VTS_04_0.IFO
231,424 VTS_04_0.VOB
217,649,152 VTS_04_1.VOB

Even if I only keep the episodes and the menus then that will be fine, but anywhere I can get info on how to do it?
Anything I can do to get around this problem? Many thanks

Is this in the correct forum?

Can I just leave of sets 3 amp; 4 for example and just burn 01 amp; 02 (and the VTS_TS files)?
