Well, I don't know if this is the right forum to ask this question, but I really don't know where I should put it.
My problem is that after encoding a movie with Divx 5.02 pro (It's the only codec I've tried) and watch it in my computer, I have a little problem with the image.
I call it quot;video syncquot;. The problem is that, ususally in fast motion scenes, a horizontal line appears for a moment in the screen. It's like there was two different images cut by a line, like a problem of sync between the two parts of the image.
However, when watching a DVD, I don't have this problem.
Does anybody know if it's related to Divx 5 ?? If it's not, do you know which is the problem and how to solve it ?
Sounds like interlacing artifacts. Did you deinterlace (either inside the codec, or with Avisynth or through GKnot) before you encoded that? If not, then you might want to check out this guide for the how to's and the why's.
Also, could you please attach a picture showing your problem, so we can determine if it is indeed interlacing?
Well, I don't think they are interlacing artifacts.
I encode PAL movies that are not interlaced, so I don't use any deinterlaced filters.

Well, it's not possible. The artifact is not really in the image. What I mean is that, if I look the film using Vitualdub (frame by frame), I don't see any artifact. I can only see it by playing it with Bsplayer, and it's only one horizontal line that goes from side to side and that gives the impression like both halves didn't match.
Sorry for my expression, but it's hard for me to explain this artifact, as I neither would know how to describe it in my own language.
The fact that it doesn't show in VirtualDub proves that it is a decoding error. And you are right, what you're describing doesn't sound like interlacing after all.
Does it happen only once in the video, or multiple times? If more than once, does it happen over a specific interval or random?
Have you tried playing the video with players other than BSPlayer? If not could you please see if the same thing happens with other players?

Well, It happens multiple times.

It's hard to say, but I think it's some kind of random, but usually in the same interval.

Well, I've tried with WMP and I can't see this artifact. So, it seems something related to Bsplayer and decoding. However, I can't understand it, as I use ffdshow.
I've managed to cut one of this intervals, of 1.25 MB where I can see this artifacts. If you want, I can put it in the web.
sounds to me like an illegal resolution, which resolution did you used?

608x320 in that specific movie.
However, this is not specific to a file, as it happens in some different movies.

Ok, so it's specific to BSPlayer then. The problem is probably some setting you have enabled/disabled that must be causing this. But as I've never used that player, I can't really advise anything (except for quot;don't use itquot; ).

I only use WMP and Core Media Player, so it's unlikely that I'll see the artifacts you've described, seeing as you only see them with BSPlayer.
BTW, BSPlayer and ffdshow don't like each other very much
And Acaila, BSPlayer is the best player around, don't you pick on my favourite player

Well, I've disabled FFdshow and let divx 5.02 decode the image. However, using Bsplayer, I still have this problem. With WMP and Power DVD I cannot see this problem.

Well, I used to thaught like you Awatef. But these artifacts are anoying me. After some minuts you don't notice them too much, but they are artifacts that could be avoided.
Does anybody know a way to solve this problem with Bsplayer ??? I really can't think of any function that may cause these artifacts.
@ curna
Do you have the latest build? (494)
If yes, then may I have a test clip please... (never encountered such problems, and I always used BSPlayer...)

Yes, I'm using the latest build.
Here you have a link to the test clip:

Right now, I think I have some idea where the problem might be.
WMP and powerDVD use an overlay mode to display the image. However, when using Bsplayer, I was not using any overlay mode, as this was the only way to see at the same time the image in the TV and in my monitor. When I changes to Overlay mode 1, the artifacts disappeared. So, although I don't understand exactly where is the problem, I think it was related to not using the overlay.
of course you've got to use overlay |
