Can I convert mpeg file to .iso?

well, thanks to  i finally was able to backup my first dvd!!! but, now i'm trying to put a vhs onto 1 dvd, if at all possible i'm not sure.  i captured using studio 8, then transferred to mpeg, but instant copy, daemon, or dvddecrypter will not recognize the files...is it possible to convert mpeg to .iso?

i'm confuses.

your trying to capture your vhs to mpeg, that part a get, but everything else is strange:

instant copy: i guess, makes copies of cds
daemon tool: emulate a cd-rom(virtual) via iso file
dvddecrypter: decrypter a dvd to a harddrive
iso: is a copy of a cd\dvd; so to speak.

so.... what are you actually trying to do?

what i want to do is put a vhs movie onto 1 dvd...with studio i can do it but it takes 1 dvd per hour of movie.  i have instant copy that will put more movie onto 1 dvd.  i already have the movie captured onto my hard drive in mpeg format.  i need to turn the mpeg into something that instant copy will recognize to burn onto dvd.
i have no qualms about acting smart about this...i'm computer retarded, and i know this

you're not computer retarded, just a newbie.

since i don't burn dvds, i will give you as much help as i can; are you going to burn your dvd as data (only viewable on your computer) or video (viewable on your dvd player amp; pc)

if it's data, try nero, burn it as you would burn a normal cd-r (you might have to change the setting, maybe)

if it's video, read the follow links:

dvd
vcd
svcd
index.html?/mpg/svcd2dvdr.htm
vcddvdr.htm

or read your instant copy manuel on how to burn a dvd.

is it an MPEG1 or MPEG2?

You can use Nero to burn them as VCD(MPEG1) or SVCD(MPEG2) without having to do anything other than dragging yor MPEG into the window.

i'm not sure.  the file says quot;winamp media filequot;.  does vcd or svcd play on a normal dvd player?

I don't have winamp; but I can answer the other question, if you didn't glean the info from (which is the same site as  VCD/SVCD are standard formats for Video on CD.

VCD, or VideoCD, is MPEG-1, with, if you will forgive the analogy, quot;VHS-likequot; quality.  VCD is wildly popular in many markets, such as Asia, where there are more VCD decks than VHS decks.  74 minute CDs will hold 74 minutes of video/audio, 80 minute CDs will hold 80 minutes of video/audio.

SVCD, or SuperVideoCD, is an MPEG-2 standard.  Unlike VCD, bitrates may vary, so how much fits on a CD will depend on choices made to encode them.  The resolution and bitrates are higher than VCD, and the resulting quality is better -- some say quot;Laser Disc-likequot; quality.

There are other Video on CD formats as well; XCD, CVD, XSVCD, etc.

Many set-top DVD players will play SVCD or VCD, but not all will, and some DVD players will not accept CD-R or CD-RW media.  You can check your player at to see what it supports.

The general consensus of the Doom9 community is to use other tools than Nero for VCD/SVCD encoding; Nero is a fine burner, but it does not have the capabilities of other tools available.  For more info on SVCD/VCD creation, check out Doom9's VCD/SVCD Guides.

Thanks Jiggimi, for pointing out that Nero should not be used for encoding. It's only used for burning compliant MPEG1 and MPEG2 files.

TMPEG is a great encoder for making compliant VCD's or SVCD's, MPEG2 ecoding is limited to 30 days.
