mix video and slide show on dvd-r?
I just shot a video of my sister's wedding along with some digital photos and would like to put them onto a dvd-r. I have already converted the dv video into the proper format.
My question is: Is it possible to put the video and pictures onto the dvd-r so it will play in a set top player?
If so, what resolution do the pix need to be?
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated...
Ideally, the photos should be in the same frame resolution as your video - which, if you are authoring from a miniDV source, would most likely be 720x480 (NTSC), or 720x576 (PAL). If they are not in the appropriate resolution for your video, then you should resize them using a decent photo editor, such as Adobe Photoshop, using a BiCubic filter. This will give you the best possible quality for when Maestro (for example) re-encodes the stills into MPEG stills. Assuming you are using Maestro, you can simply import these stills into the assets bin, just as you would do with the video file(s), and then simply drop the stills, one by one, into the timeline of your slideshow, making sure that you have specified the default duration (if you are using DVDmaestro, this is in the main program preferences dialogue). This slideshow must be a seperate timeline (seperate VTS) from your video file(S). Regarding the resolutions above, I am specifically assuming that you are authoring a standard 4:3 resolution project, rather than any wide-screen shananigans!
If you need any more help, or are using a different DVD-authoring application, repost and let us know, and either myself or another forum member will assist you.
Short answer, then, is quot;yesquot; it IS possible to do this and have it play legitimately on a standalone player, provided you author the title correctly in the first place. It's very simple and nothing to get in a twist about Arky ;o)Incidentally, another alternative is to use Cinemacraft (must be SP, not Basic) to create an MPEG stream of your stills, but this would be marginally more hassle to achieve than if you are using DVDmaestro and just create a standard slideshow on the timeline.
As usual, from you, I receive perfectly clear sound advice. I tahnk you and yes I am using Maestro. So if I use a seperate vts timeline in Maestro can I import a audio title and connect it to the stills? I imagine so but how would I make the A/V sync?
Also where is the default duration for the slides in Maestro?
I'm not sure what you mean by quot;synchingquot; audio with STILLS? Please be more specific and I'll get back to you accordingly.
You simply drop the audio onto the timeline beneath the stills, just as you would if you'd added a video track to the timeline instead. It really is that simple.
With regard to setting your slideshow still duration default, just go to:
File =gt; Preferences =gt; General =gt; Slideshow Default =gt; Slide LengthAnd type in what you require. Generally, around 5 seconds is appropriate, but you may wish to alter this if you have an audio track which you wish to finish at the same time as the last slide - for example, if you had an audio track of exactly 36 seconds long, and you had 6 slides, then obviously, it would be logical to set the slide default duration to 6 seconds per slide, etc.
Note that it is also possible to alter the duration of each individual slide, such that each of them has a unique duration, but this is rather unlikely to be necessary (in such a rare instance, you'd have to click on each slide within the timeline and set it accordingly, using the popup dialogue).
Let me know if I can be of any more assistance.
Have fun!Arky ;o)
Error in Meastro:
Progressive Frame Flag in Picture Coding Exstensionis set to 0 (0xc1070013)
I convert my dv avi files To mpeg-2 using TMPGenc adn then used mpeg tools to join them then did simple demux then tried to import into Maestro and poofquot;errorquot;.
Is there a problem using tmpgenc to cut/join if importing into Maestro?
For anybody with the same wish but who does not own Photoshop, Maestro and has no wish to buy or learn the programs - I can highly recomend Sonics MyDVD.
It takes care of all the above and is cheap. |
