Same film encoded twice in GK producing different framesizes…

This is about “Total Recall” [this particular disc was a HongKong import with three movies in it; Total Recall was 1.87 GB. I know, I know, they ought to be shot (“No trial, no jury-just straight to execution”-Pulp Fiction)]. Although DVD2AVI said the source (4:3, 29.970, NTSC) was Interlaced, AutoGK judged it as Progressive. Moreover, I did make a tiny project file with a high-motion sequence from the source and examined it frame by frame; every fifth frame was a repeat of the fourth one, but interlacing artefacts could not be discerned. So I made the .d2v project file with Force Film OFF, and then opted for IVTC in GKnot, correcting for frame count.

I have encoded it with GKnot two times. Each time, compressibility test gave different estimates. I kept the % figure between 60 and 70 each time.

The two efforts produced these two files:

Information.....1st Encode.......................2nd Encode
File Size.......703MB Custom 748MB not acieved...750 MB Achieved custom 750 MB

Frame Size......416 x 304........................256 x 192

Length..........158829...........................158829
Keyframes.......4009.............................3810
Data Rate.......762 Kbps.........................822 Kbps
VbrMp3 DataRate.116 Kbps.........................116 Kbps

The files look no different from each other. Conceding that the eye may not spot subtle differences, which file should I keep ? Which should look better on projection ?

I know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but which one is scientifically and logically better ?

Tell me if it an absurd question, some more info is needed.

Thanks and Regards.

Sorry, ukb, but the forum can't help you with this one -- Rule 6.  The film Total Recall is the intellectual property of Carolco International N.V. and other production and distribution companies.  The distributers of record for DVDs are 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment and Artisan Entertainment.
