Capturing with no compression?
I'm a real newbie at video recording. I'm planning on copying some music videos from a VCR (Beta) to my system. I have an old ATI All-in-wonder Pro card and I've used it's software to capture and Tempgenc to convert to MPG. It's working reasonably well but I would like to try and improve the quality. From scanning the forum I get the impression that maybe I should capture without any compression for best results (I have lots of drive space). However I haven't been able to figure out how to do it. I downloaded and installed the Huffyuv codec hoping that it would do it. But it doesn't show up in the Format options. All I see are:
ATI packed YUV data
YVU9 planar (indeo raw)
YVU12 planar (MPEG raw)
ATI VCR 1.0
ATI VCR 2.0
Can someone point me in the right direction?
I capture YUV 4:2:2 uncompressd all the time.
It's only 42MB/Sec and the capture card in only 8000$
Are you sure you want to try it ?
Using HUFFYUV is a good choice (if not the best). Which capture program do you use? Did you try VirtualDub?

Thanks BB! .. I tried the ATI software and VirtualDub yesterday and neither one had Huffyuv as an option. Today when I just tried VirtualDub, it has it. I'll give it a try.
Thanks Scuba .. But $8000 is a little out of my price range. :-)
Using VirtualDub you should see Huffyuv in the Video Compression menu. Else I'd say you didn't install it correctly?!
