Why not an option to create VCD?

Hi,

probably a stupid question but why does the program only supports SVCD?.

I encounter at the moment a hitch in the sound and movie if I play it on a standalone DVD player (denon DV800). I posted this mornig already a thread for this problem but if the outcome is that SVCD is not posible for me, then VCD would be fine for me.

So basicly, a button to have the option to create VCD instead of SVCD would be an option for me, right?

Cheers,

Erik

don't give up just yet. vcd isn't nearly as good as svcd.

BTW
sent you a PM

I have asked about VCD before without any luck.

I have since found that if you take the multiplexed .mpg files created by DVD2SVCD and use these as both the video and sound source to TMPGENC it does a good job of creating the .mpg file required for the VCD (I then use Nero to create the VCD).   The reason for doing it this way is I get DVD2SVCD to do all the hardwork of sound synchronisation, NTSC-PAL conversion, etc and then use TMPGENC to simply do a recode of the video.  This is not the fastest way to create the VCD from the original DVD, but as I often want both a SVCD and VCD version it works well for me.

Hope that helps?

Of course it would be ideal if DVD2SVCD did this automatically.  If as a result of the poll DVD2SVCD is conducting he decides to add TMPGENC support into the DVD2SVCD program as a standard feature there is more likely to be a chance of getting VCD output added as an option.

Why not an option to use Tmpegnc

dvd2svcd has entered a poll in the advanced forum about entering tmpgenc. If you think it should be enabled in dvd2svcd vote for it!

I know SVCD is awesome but putting in an option to create VCD will just make this program the best of them all

I would love to see that!

Not to be wise, but the program is called DVD2SVCD not DVD2VCD.

To create a VCD it is already very easy using TMPG.

There is a guide on Doom9.

There are too many differences to justify making it worth it.
VCD spec requires 224 audio, SVCD can vary,  VCD spec calls for Mpeg-1, SVCD is MPEG-2, VCD has a different file structure requiring changing the way the .cue/.bin files are made. It's not really a simple thing.

Who knows? Maybe the author of this program might think about it in the future

DVDx can do the VCD and SVCD and can also use CCE

Although, I still prefer DVD2SVCD when making SVCDs

Nice answer! Very related to my post LOL
