divx 5 playback problem

I have a problem with playing back movies that are encoded with divx 5. All I get is black!? I can play any divx3/4 and I can encode divx 5. The movies will play in The Playa, but that (I am guessing) is because it has internal divx rendering abilities. They will not play in WMP or PowerDivx. I have uninstalled and reinstalled a few times and that doesn't seem to change anything. I'd apperciate any help you can give me.

PS I am Running on win2000, but I have a friend with the same problem and he is using winME.

i've wiped my system clean and reinstalled win2k, but the problem is still here. *sigh* i have an amd athlon 1.3ghz, sis730s onboard video card. any help that someone can give me would be VERY MUCH appreciated! thanks~

have you tried to remove all the post-processing options from the codec?

do you have any other apps screwing up with avi? (like premiere bogus plugins or dubious ulead video install)

have you updated WMP? if so, have you re-installed your codecs? (WMP is well known for stupid updates crippling your existing codecs)

do you at least get sound when playing through WMP or powerdivx? and in the playa?

that's all i can think of right now... let me know how what's up with your problem.

Try to render the file in graphedit and post result here. We'll see if a filter can cause this problem

This is the media rendered in graphedit...

Movie -gt; AVI Splitter -gt; DivX Decoder Filter -gt; Video Renderer
(Movie-gt;AVI Splitter)\-gt; MPEG Layer-3 Decoder -gt; Morgan Stream Switcher -gt; Default DirectSound Device

When it is played, the sound plays just fine (quite tempting, actually). But the video is just jumbled colors, mostly black screen. After wiping my entire system, DivX 2.0 Alpha player won't play the movie anymore. It shouldn't be a problem with other programs - all I have is virtualdub. The video before I wiped my system played in virtualdub, but now it won't even do that (go figure). Thanks for your responses so far, let's see if we can't get this figured out some more! =P

Strange everything is ok in the graph. Did you take a look in the DivX Configuration ? Try to reset settings

putting the post-processing to full ... or all the down gives the same result. It is the same in all the players and in vdub too. Even though the movie plays fine on a friend's computer.

This happened to me as well. Change your desktop resolution to 24 or 32bit color and it should play back fine (at least for me it did).

Okay, this is a common problem.  it happens when the divx was encoded using 5.01, and is being played back with 5.0.  I suggest installing divx 5.01 (or 5.02) if you don't already, and seeing if that fixes it.

btw, I don't know the status of this bug in divx 5.02.
