How to export to mpeg2 within VirtualDub?

Is there any plugin, filter or .dll that allow to implement this?

I would like to generate a mpeg2 file swapping the interlaced fields Avid Xpress DV exports wrongly ordered, but without generating an intermediate file; e.g.; I would like to swap fields and encode to mpeg2 on the fly.

Is this possible?

I´ve heard rumours (...well, not sure anyway) than later versions than 1.4.10 did support mpeg2 encoding in limited-day free-trial concept...was I wrong?

yes you are wrong.

VirtualDub never supported any type of encoding natively (well, except for uncompressed video of course)
also, there are no trial versions of VDub as it completely free for you to use.

but id bet that if you did a google for YMPEG youd still could find a download with MPEG2 encoding. not completely legal to use, but so is XviD and no one seems to care about that either.

I never heard of this before, but just looked it up with Google, and it is not withdrawn. THere even is a web site for the program:



The only thing is--although it lists itself as quot;freewarequot;, it really is trialware now. After a 14 day evaluation period, you have to buy the product, or MPEG-2 encoding stops working. (As I would guess most users want it for MPEG-2, not just MPEG-1, I really wouldn't consider that quot;freewarequot;. Not expensive though, $19.95, so if it works well, it might be worth it.

So that's probably how they dealt with the legal issue. They probably pay a cut of each $19.95 registration fee to the MPEG-2 group.

Current version is 1.2. Did the older versions do MPEG-2 forever, without registration? Perhaps it might be worthwhile to find an older version on the web? What were the latest versions that were still completely free?

yes they did... im surprised seeing it in the 1.2 status though, last version i have on my comp is 0.6.14 (hint  )

Well, how well does YMEPG work? Does it cause any problems?

If it works well, it could be nice, perhaps even worth paying the $19.95 for the new version. (I don't know if there are improvements in the new version, as well as the charge.)

I have commercial programs that can edit MPEG-2 (Ulead Video Studio 7 SE, for example), but vdub/vdubmod does some things better than other programs i've used. And although vdubmod can import mpeg-2, it cannot save as that. It would be nice to be able to use the features of vdub with mpegs, including saving.

For instance, with this YMPEG, can one use quot;Direct Stream Copyquot; with MPEGs. For instance, import a MPEG, do some trimming, for example, and save with the video and audio streams set to quot;Direct Stream Copyquot; so that the video and audio are not re-rendered, just saved with the trimmed footage cut out(as one can do with AVIs)?

I know you do not have the latest version, but if you could let us know how well your version works, including any problems it has, please let us know. And for those who have other versions, please report on them as well.
