Burnt DVDs skip like a hopscotching 9-year-old girl

Alright, here's the specs:
Burner: Lite-On LDW - 411S
Media: Ritek Ridata G04 4X DVD-R
Player 1: 3-year old RCA
Player 2: 3-year old Apex

I've also tried them on a brand new Apex with shitty results.  I've burned them with CloneDVD and Nero, still skips.  The skipping on player 2 can be described as skipping ahead 2 minutes four or five times per movie, and the skipping on player 1 is just a bearable pause (on most movies) 4 or 5 times per movie.  Any idea what's causing the problem?  Since it's having the similar issue on 3 DVD players, I'm thinking it's the media/burner/software.

Bump. I'm having the same problem, some of my movies will start to skip either half-way through or near the end, not horrible skipping but still bad. Any ideas?

I put the blame on your burner, media, and/or speed of burning. The Lite-On is an ok burner, but I have seen it give problems on picky dvd players. I suggest you use a lower burner speed or try a different brand of media. If you been using dvd-r, then give dvd+r bitset to dvd-rom a try and vice versa.

I have to disagree with DMagic1. I've got a 411 and it's virtually flawless with Ritek G04s, the discs play back perfectly on any player I've tried.

Assuming there's actually nothing wrong with your burner, maybe you could make sure that the discs are completely dust-free before burning.

The discs are direct from the spindle, and this error happens on every disc (I've burned over 100 now).  I've learned to not watch them on the RCA because it skips ahead 2 minutes at a time, and I just watch them on the APEX and deal with the 2 second pauses 4 or 5 times through each movie.  But I'd rather it didn't happen at all.

DMagic1 - I thought the burning speed no longer mattered?  Sure, it was an issue with CDR burners back in 1996, but will a 1X burn really solve my problem?

I wonder if slower burning actually does matter.. I have a Plextor PX-708A and it randomly does it to discs. I mean, out of the recently 4 I've burned, 2 were perfect, one had like 5, 2 sec skips and one was like a segment of pain... not sure why

Yes it does matter because not all media handle the higher speeds well. I don't think you need to go as far as 1x. Try a lower speed than what you've been using. Try some different media if that doesnt help.

How up to date is your firmware?
