USB vs firewire , corrupting the data
I am using a LG 4082 mounted on an external casing attached to the notebook via a PCMCIA card
what is the advantage /disdavantages of using USB 2.0 vs firewire , especially pertaining to corrupting the data while wriiting with the writer
Although USB 2.0 enjoys a theoretical data throughput advantage over FireWire (480Mbps vs. 400Mbps), FireWire seems to come out on top in sustained data transfer tests. Here's just one example/explanation from a Google search on the topic complete with a read/write comparison at the bottom of that page.
FireWire 800, also referred to as 1394b, has already hit the scene with a theoretical data transfer rate of 800Mbps; I've seen some new drives with the faster FireWire combo'd up with USB 2.0. F-F-F-Fast stuff!
On the capture front, almost everyone I've talked to lately caps with FireWire when given the option; a lot of the external hard drives and enclosures now available support both technologies.
