Six mono files to 1 wav/ac3 file
Hello everyone,
I have six mono wav files which I want to get them into a one 5.1 file in the format of wav or ac3.
I tried doing this with Soft Encode (as i know no other software) but the front and rear channels are not putting any sound when i try to play it before saving or encoding. I tried to save it to digital wav but when i try to open it with WMP or importing it to premiere, an error occur. Tried also to encode it to ac3 but Soft Encode generates an error in the beginning of the encoding and closes.
Anyone has an idea how to solve this problem with Soft Encode or can suggest another software that performs same task? Need a simple software like Soft Encode pls.

The digital wave file you produce can't be played back in WMP or Premiere. You can burn it to a CD just like a regular audio file and play it back on a DVD player through an AC3 encoder, provided the file was encoded at 44.1kHz.
The SoftEncode error was mentioned before in another thread and I also encountered it myself at some point. You have to uninstall completely and preferably clean any entries for SoftEncode from the registry (tricky unless you're comfortable messing around with the registry).
You could also try SurCode programs or the free AC3 encoders for Besweet. They originally had a bad rep, but apparently, they do better now.
Hope this helps.
Steve.
Didnt know re digital wave. I encoded it at 48kHz. Is it ok to try it on dvd player?
I found some threads mentioning lots of errors for Soft Encode but didn't find the solution to my problem. Thanks for your help. I am comfortable messing around with the regisrty but still try to avoid it. Uninstalled Soft Encode and re-installed it but didn't remove any registry keys manually. In your case, deleting its registry keys solved the problem?
Regarding Surcode and BeSweet, I know they are good for ac3 encoding. I tried Surcode and I'm pleased with its results but I am not aware that i can import six mono wave files and encode them to one ac3 file. Am I wrong? If so, pls tell me what I should do.

Unfortunately, 48k is for encoding with a video file. I'm not sure of the exact technical chain of events so I won't venture a guess, but either the DVD player or the receiver has to see the 44.1 rate before it will recognize the data stream and handle it properly.
Yes deleting the reg keys and re-installing resolved the problem for me.
Yes you can import six mono wave files to Surcode. For besweet info check this forum and web site. There are lots of guides.
Steve.
Thanks for making it clear Steve.
Gonna try Surcode as first option. I have SurCode 5.1 surround for Adobe Premiere Pro but dont know how to import the six mono files. Can you pls explain?
As regards Soft Encode, do you have an idea why the front and rear channels emitted no sound in preview?

I've never tried the Premiere Pro SurCode plugin so you'll have to read the help files for that one.
As for the preview mode, you can only preview two channels in SoftEncode, although you can play back the six input files together but you need to have a multichannel soundcard (more than 2 channels) with ASIO drivers (if you're not sure about this, you probably don't have one). If you do have such a setup, go into the Options menu and choose Device Options. In the resulting dropdown list box, you can set three destination pairs of ASIO channels for playback, plus another pair for the 2-channel preview.
If the above paragraph doesn't make any sense to you at all, then you need to search around the forum here for some explanations of what ASIO is and how one sets up a multichannel system. You could also try some of the FAQs at It's the source site for a free multichannel driver setup for the Soundblaster Live/Audigy/Audigy2 souncards. It has some good intro articles on multichannel ASIO.
Steve.
No I have a 2 channel sound card.
Maybe this is stupid but I was connecting the 2 channel sound card with a home theatre 5.1 receiver. I thought that the receiver would split the channels himself. Am I right?
With the 2 channel sound card, is it possible to hear ac3 and dts files? If it is, what should I do and what software can i use?

Only if your card has a SPDIF output (optical/coaxial) and your receiver has a corresponding digital input. See the AC3/DTS FAQs for more information.
Is there a software that can play ac3 and dts through a 2 channel sound card even though it will be a 2 channel? Like quot;automaticquot; downmixing?

This will be done automatically as long as you have an AC3 directshow filter installed. Around here, we recommend AC3Filter. You can change the settings through the AC3Filter config.
Thanks to everyone for the help. |
