I just got the US-DVD quot;Heistquot; (I live in Europe) and ripped it to my harddisk with smartripper without enabling the decrypting. Then I had to give it back and later looked at the vobs. No program will play them back, neither dvd2avi nor PowerDVD nor AVISynth. DVD2AVI and PowerDVD show a green screen, when I hange to RGB colours it turns black. The resizing is also done right, the resolution is displayed right, too. I guess the files are still encrypted somehow, could someone tell me what to do, please...
Why did you rip them without decrypting?
Doing that is the same as copying them in explorer.
You will need to decrypt your files before you can do anything with them.
i did it for the first time, because my ripping has become 10 times slower somehow (10x-gt;1.1x), so i tried to disable the decrypting. It seems like the other dvd i ripped that night wasn't decrypted, that one worked.
Anyway, are you trying to tell me there's no way to decrypt the files after the copying...? I haven't cared for the decrypting at all, yet, I've never had any problems with it and just left it switched on, but it still seems a little strange. Is the key only found on the dvd or could I generate a virtual drive and decrypt the files again? I'm sorry for missing such basic knowledge about the DVD-Decoding Process, but could someone tell me if this is possible?
You can decrypt from the hdd, just it will be a little slower as the key has to be generated from a 'brute force' attack instead of getting it from a combination of calls to the dvdrom / disc.
Of course hdd to hdd transfer is far quicker than dvd to hdd so in actual fact it wont take as long.
There should be no difference between dvd to hdd with decrpytion and dvd to hdd without decryption. Unless of course you're running a pentium 166 or something!
Thanx for your help, but I'm still having a hard time decrypting the files on my harddisk. These are my vStrip0.8f settings:

When I start the process the program tries to find the key for about 10 minutes and then gives up. A message appears which says that vStrip couldn't decrypt or something. I'd really appreciate some help.
Sorry, I cannot really comment on this program. I dont know enough about it.
Try smartripper or something, I doubt it will do any better, but its worth a try. |
