Locked files when using smartripper

When I used smartripper (the one included with gordian knot) on my previous computer (windows 98 SE with Pioneer DVD rom) everything always went smoothly. But now I'm using windows XP on my new computer, with a samsung dvd drive, every time I want to rip a dvd I have to quot;unlock them with a playerquot;. Why is this? I really hate this sh**. Thx for sharing your insights.

If smartripper had decent error reporting (like dvd decrypter  ) you would have seen that you need to install an aspi manager.
The same goes for all rippers - You cannot authenticate the disc without ASPI.

But I have downloaded amp; installed the very latest adaptec 4.71 (which should work with windows XP)

ok, well in that case, I cant help you until I know the error that dvd decrypter throws up (if any).
Load it up and paste the contents of the log in your next post.

The only reason smartripper should report that error is if authentication failed.
That should only happen if either 1. ASPI isnt installed (or working properly), 2. You found a bug in the program.

How can I check if it is installed properly (is there a detection program?)

Read my previous message:

I will use dvd decrypter in a moment.

Now have a look at this...
Unbelievable, DVD decrypter works perfectly.
