Mpeg 2 player ?

Hi

I have a chinese SVCD movie (so I guess this is encoded in Mpeg2).
I tried to read it using PowerDVD, but it doesn't work (it mainly displays green blocks, and there is no sound). I tried to install Elecard MPEG Video Decoder, but it doesn't work at all ! The Windows Media Player tells me quot;wrong file formatquot;...
Though, I already had Mpeg2 movies, and this Elecard Video Decoder worked very well for them... So I don't understand !

How can I read my current SVCD ? Is there a good Mpeg2 reader/player ?

Thanks !

P.S.: I didn't know if I had to post it in the SVCD section, so I posted it there... Dunno if it was the good choice...

it could be that the cd is scratched, or bad for other reason.
try to make an image of that cd (i.e. with clonecd), use low speed for the drive (x2 or x4).
mount the image with daemon, and try to play the file from the virtual drive again with the apps/filters you mentioned.

cheers
avi.

it's not a CD
it's a .MPG file... I can't burn it, because it's 734Mb, and I've not 800Mb CD-R

you SHOULD be able to burn 734M mpeg2 file to svcd.
svcd use mode 2 form 2, which is without error correction, and thus, allows larger files to be stored (similar to mode2cdmaker or the future xcd).

but i doubt it'll work if you can't play it now..

cheers again
and good luck

It's probably in RIFF/CDXA format, because someone copied it the wrong way, directly from CD to the hard disk.

Try to strip the unneeded info with the following command-line tool:

de_xt/cdxa2mpeg.zip

Write the following on a DOS box:

cdxa2mpeg moviefile.mpg fixed.mpg

Where moviefile.mpg is your non-working movie. It will create a fixed.mpg file which should play OK.

OK, I'll try this later ! Thanks a lot !
