rippd amp; convrtd movie too dark .. howto fix it?

i ripped amp; converted Van Helsing using GKnot
(DivX 5.1.2 - 1392MB - 1413.12kbps)

Settings are (DivX Slow Encode, Psychovisual Slow, Progressive, DivX Home Theater Profile, Adaptive Single Consecutive, 2Pass)

But the video is too dark ... cant see most of the detail .. will changing the settings help or is contrast/brightness adjustment required. If yes howto do this in gknot ?

i still have the orginal dvd .. need to fix this before giving it away ..

/disclaimer.htm.

Hi-

You can brighten it up by fooling with the overlay settings of your video card, or adjusting the contrast/brightness in your player. But if that isn't good enough for you, see if there are any tips in this thread (check the pictures):

showthread.ph...light=YLevelsC

It will require getting and loading the MaskTools plugin, putting the YLevels function in your AviSynth Plugins folder, and then editing your GKnot generated .avs. This is slightly advanced stuff, but not too difficult.

This would not qualify as Fair Use.  Please read the section marked quotiracy and Copyrightquot; in purchased the dvd .. now i always make a back-up copy before my friends take it away amp; loose it .. it has happend many a times (loosing the original dvd) that i tend to keep a good quality backup before i give it. .. atleast im not copying someone elses dvd ..
+ backing up into another format is not an offence in my country .. only duplicating a dvd amp; selling is a crime ..

other than that is there a good way to back up with increased brightness .. say virtualdub ?

I stand by my earlier statement.  Note that you've been warned about Rule 6 once before:

showthread.php?s=amp;threadid=51425

And in the following thread, you were working from a duplicate rather than an original DVD.  Certainly skirting the edge of Rule 6 interpretation:

showthread.php?s=amp;threadid=54295

Based on that history, I took the time to warn you about the forum's  Fair Use interpretation.  This forum only supports Fair Use of copyrighted content.

We are scrupulous in our defense of intellectual property rights on this forum.

Based on our interpretation of Fair Use, giving your originals to others and keeping the backups for yourself is not Fair Use, it is the same as giving your backups away.

Didn't like the earlier suggestions, eh? Then use the  Tweak Filter to adjust the contrast and brightness before encoding.

And please don't try and take a stand on this Fair Use issue. You're only going to lose.
