AMD or Intel for video encoding with CCE
With the recent announcement from AMD on the new range of CPU Sempron. How does it compare to Intel celeron for video encoding? My deciding factor is of course price and becos of constraint, I would only look at AMD Sempron or Celeron, the latest northwood core processer.
go to the CCE section of this forum. there is a speed test thread where people have tested CCE versions on different cpus etc. dont know how many celerons etc but it may help. from reading i have done though an athlon xp is generally faster than a celeron at equivilant rating. so an athlon 2400+ is faster for most things than a celeron 2.4ghz.
it also depends on what other uses you intend for your pc aswell. because an AMD cpu may be a little slower say for CCE but faster for something else. i personally have an athlon xp and am happy with it. not only because of the speed but because it was damn cheap.
Go for P4 instead. With SSE2 and SSE3, it's a born leader
and much more expensive.
since simdavid the deciding factor is price then an athlon is much better bang for buck.
dragongodz is rite, I saw the speed comparison in tomhardware and the speed isn't that such big a gap but I looking at teh CCE forum for more info...thanks a lot everyone!
Celeron is FSB 400 or 533, with SSE2
Athlon is FSB 233 or 333, with no SSE2.
I think celeron would be faster.
Sirber - ok no CCE test here but have a read anyway

note its comparing a Celeron 2.8ghz against an Athlon xp 2500+ aswell as a P4 and Athlon64. |
