Aspect ratio???? help please

Hello

i got a dvd with on each site a movie
site 1 widescreen 16/9
site 2 full screen 4/3
I want to get the widescreen, so this site is loaded
in my dvd2svcd convertion tab i can choose from 2 options?
first : 4/3 [no borders, encoded as 4/3]
second: 16/9 [borders added, encoded as 4/3]

what does this mean and what option should i take
can someone help me with this?
i'm a newbie, sorry

Hi Appie

After you click on the little small pix of the CD in the Conversion tab of DVD2SVCD, it should automatically select the correct aspect ratio for you.  If not, 16/9 would be the one to choose for widescreen.

The abovestated is correct. DVD2SVCD will auto select the proper aspect ratio 99.9% of the time.

FYI: For questions like these (which have probably been answered several times already) you can do a search for your question, or read through the FAQ. If you don't find an answer in either of those 2 locations, then you should post a new topic - but not before.

ok, will do a search for it
but i think it's strange that dvd2svcd selects 4/3
the dvd has 2 side's, fullscreen and wide screen
if i want wide screen it still select's 4/3
it's on pc the same.(4/3 screen picture)
look's like there is only 4/3 on the dvd on both side's

Fullscreen is 4:16. Widescreen is 16:9. What you can do if you want is put the DVD in your drive and play it with WinDVD or PowerDVD and see what the output is. If it plays the movie in 16:9 then you know that you have the widescreen side and you can select the correct ratio on the conversion tab. If it playes it in 4:3 then you can flip the disk over and you should be all set. Or vice versa if you want the 4:3 mode. Pretty simple

I'm glad dvd2svcd worked his butt off with the preview function which enables checking how your final video aspect ratio will look.  Seems to be quite the popular feature.

Very possible-BUT-one will be the full screen version, and the other will be the letterboxed widescreen. If that sounds to you as if it makes no sense, then you are another candidate for  Aspect Ratios Explained. Pay particular attention to the paragraph 2/3 of the way down beginning:

There are also DVDs which have a DAR of 4:3 but contain widescreen picture.

i've tried both side's with powerdvd and it looks like the only different is that 1 side put's the subtitels higher in the picture then the other side of the disk!?

I don't believe it. Doesn't the DVD have small writing along the inside that says Wide-Screen on one side and Full Screen on the other?

If you see the same size picture in PowerDVD, then you've got an Aspect Ratio setting wrong. The fact that the subs have different positions is proof of that.

What's the title of the movie APPIE?

the movie is called quot;Men In Blackquot;
if i put the dvd in my dvdplayer and i got the picture selector on automatic it won't go to 16:9 also
if i select widescreen the aspect ratio isnt good beats me

Was the movie made for distribution in Holland? There are differences in specs from country to country, to prevent pirating. This may be the cause of your problem, as MIB is definately a US-made movie.

there are almost from every european country subs on it
so it's not just for holland i think

after loading the IFO in quot;Conversionquot; tab with the quot;Internal routinesquot; selected for ripping please click the quot;Movie lengthquot; pulldown and see if there's different tracks available in the quot;Track lengthquot; pulldown.

If so, try a different one than the already selected. Usually it should have a little different track length. But one will be the widescreen and one will be the fullscreen version.
