GMC and FFDSHOW

ok, I understand that there is a bug with the DivX 5 decoder and GMC, where some weird artifacts appear. I personally have never experienced this. I know that by using ffdshow as the decoder, the bug does not exist as the bug is associated with the default divx 5 decoder. Thing is that when I used ffdshow, I got some very strange results with post-processing when deblock (H) and deblock (V) are enabled. some sort of weird flickering or jumping or flashing if you will. It isn't too noticeable unless you look close, but it is cleary visible to me. try to just enable deblock (H) and deblock (V) and you will see what I am talking about (unless it is an isolated problem only for me?) I didn't notice it too much with the anime I was watching but I did with the movie I AM SAM. used the following settings, if that matters any:

1-pass constant quality @ quant 2

- gmc
- bframes

and that's about it for that. any comments? suggestions? rants? raves? flames?

*EDIT* I have not tested any other material as of yet except I AM SAM with the ffdshow decoder. I will do so shortly whenever I get a chance.

i also noticed this flickering especially in uniform color areas ... sometimes very annoying
high resolution/detail textures will not show this problem, only the above mentioned
i somehow got used to it, but if it was fixed i'd be happy about it

of course it won't flicker with divx5 decoder .. it's a ffdshow post-processing problem

i use divx5.0 with b-frames, gmc .. that's it

@ speedamigo
GMC is still buggy, don't use it: showthread.php?s=amp;threadid=27251

good so I am not the only one (mean that in a good way). it isn't even all of the post-processing options, this bug is just associated with the deblock post-processing in ffdshow. the deblock (H) and deblock (V). if you enable all the other post-processing options and disable deblock (H) and deblock (V), this flickering will not happen. but, what good is post-processing without deblocking!!
I hope this gets fixed up too. and you're right, it isn't too noticable with more complex textures. but it is very noticable on foreheads and the like, and ESPECIALLY on grounds. for instance there was this scene in I Am Sam, where sam was in the supermarket, and the floor was flickering a lot, very annoying. but, if you watch it from far and I wasn't looking for it, it may just slip by my eyes. still not good enough for me though, until this bug is fixed I am sticking to the default divx 5 decoder. also, I wonder if this bug is associated with specific settings in divx 5 such as GMC or b-frames, or if it is associated with ALL DivX 5 content, or if it is associated with ANYTHING played back by ffdshow.. any comments? (I would test other material, but my current resources are limited...)sorry about spelling/grammar errors.

I donloaded the latest build of ffdshow and I think there is no problem with that questions. Build 4614 17 june 2002

nope, I have that same build. still got that bug

I went back to divx5 decoder because with ffdshow i don't get smooth playback. It may be some pstprocessing option...
