Problem copying Grace Jones CD

Hi All,

I'm having a bit of a problem backing up an Audio CD.
It's Grace jones from EMI and comes with Copy Control technnology.
I'm wondering if anyone knows the best way for me to back it up.
The disk says that it has 756Mb used but if you look at it in Windows explorer there are a couple of folders which include a player for it but nothing else.
I don't want to use the player that it comes with but I do want to be able to back the CD up. It's a fairly rare CD which has taken me an age to find so I really want to kepp this copy in v. good condition.

Thanks for your help.
BTW if this isn't the right forum to put it in, let me know and I'll move it elsewhere.

Thanks

Schotty.

aaah, damn EMI australia.  i actually rang them up and asked if it were possible to get the Cat Empire without CDS200 protection... they were like quot;well, EMI does it in every country we're allowed to in, but you can transfer it analog so it'll play in your equipmentquot;.

you can defeat it using Exact Audio Copy (EAC) with c2 error checking turned off.  depending on your drive, of course.  mine will do it with c2 on for Hail To The Thief, but needs it off for The Cat Empire.

these are the only 2 CDS200 discs i've tried.

there may be clicks in the rip you make.  this is because the glass master has deliberate f***ups in the data stream.  those samples can never be recovered.

basically these discs are not Red Book compliant, and therefore are not CDs.  rip it, then take it back to the store.  nuts to Australian Copyright law, which is amoung the worst in the world (if not THE worst, thanks very much to the FTA).

btw, what i describe above is illegal in Australia - go to  for more information.  i say screw it - it's worth going to jail for your right to play your music in your own goddamn equipment.

okay... rant over.

hehe... what the EMI guy from Sydney told me to do to enable playback in my equipment is also illegal under Australian copyright law.  it's a sad world
