I've bought a RICOH MP5125 in July, after ordering DVD+R amp; DVD+RW at
index1.htm, the coasters serie has begun...
I've ordered:
-10x DVD+R Verbatim
-20X DVD+R Infiniti (seems to be made by Ricoh)
-10x DVD+RW Verbatim
CD-R, CD-RW, DVD+RW burning is working great but after only 2 good DVD+R in the beginning, all the others I burnt were coaster !!!
Without chnanging anything to my config:
Athlon 1.4@1.6 (really stable)
Win XP Pro (Eng) + hotfixes
Firmware 1.27 (RPC1 or RPC2) for the Ricoh which is in Secondary Master or Slave with Toshiba SDM1402 Master or Slave.
Mobo: Epox 8KTA3+ Pro with KT133A
3x256MB Mushkin Rev3+
1x Quantum 30GB Prim Master
1X Maxtor 80GB Prim Slave
1X Maxtor 80GB on HPT controller in master. Here are everything I tried:
------------------------------------
-I'm always using Record Now Max 4.1 with lastest PXEngine, but I've also tried RNM 4.0, Nero, BSRecorder, Gear...
-I even chose a shorter 40pin cable, because I thought the previous one could decrease the electrical signal.
-Nothing worked so I've RMA it, and now the one do the same thing !
-So I've tested it on another computer:
Duron 900
Abit KT7A
Alone on Sec Master and same problem !!!!
I think I'm going completely crazy....8-OHere are the kind of error I've got each time:

I encounter an error during the burning process (the test is OK each time), and my disc is ejected as coaster or the program stops writing after a few meg and freezes. On my computer here are the burning software installed:
-RNM 4.10
-Blindwrite 4.0.5
-CDRWin
and Daemon Tools for Emulation
on the other computer:
only RNM 4.0
and Daemon Tools. If you have any advice or solution, I'd be really grateful because it's costing me a lot of money and above all I'd like to be able to burn some DVD+R because I bought the burner for that !
It might be Daemon Tools, but this is not really serious because for all other formats that's OK :/
Plz help an unlucky guy, thx.
The only thing I can offer is that I had similar problems with my Pioneer (I know, DVD+R vs. DVD-R) and it turned out to be a DMA/UDMA issue. I had to disable it, stopped getting the errors.
Did you get the same errors with DVD+RWs??
For your UDMA that's a known issue for Pioneer (check news2.php3?ID=4557 to have an idea). But that's not a known problem for this serie of Ricoh writers, so I don't think it comes from that setting.
And for the DVD+RW I'm burning them without a glitch (idem for CD-R, CD-RW), each time that's perfect, I've only serious problems with the DVD+R .
Thw to take the time to answer.
try disabling dma anyway (5125 supports ata33 or 66 if i remember correctly?)
i have a 9120 which is basically the same drive, just without dvd burning, and it has DMA problems with ali magik 1 chipsets.
also try turning every bios setting down (ie failsafe), dont worry if your cpu ends up running at sub 1ghz, i seriously dont trust via at all, esp 686x south bridges.

CD-DVD drive and recorders only supports UDMA33, this is for this reason it becomes problematic to put a HDD on the same channel. What is really weird, is the fact that everything is fine excepted the DVD+R writing (reading is OK, and writing of CD-R, CD-RW and DVD+RW too). So I think I would have some prob with DVD+RW if it was something about DMA setting, and I believe it would be even worst in PIO (no CRC check for data and high CPU usage).
Even the test in DVD+R writing is OK, but as soon as I really burn I get a coaster, excellent to play freesbee during summer ....
So I'll try to do a test with the lastest release of Nero and will follow the maxim quot;wait and seequot;.
It doesn't make sense that it would burn dvd+rw just fine but not dvd+r. If I were you, I'd return it right away and get something else, or a replacement. Just make sure its not a defective drive and has trouble with DVD+R's.

But my current drive is already a model received Wednesday after a RMA ! The problem encountered is the same that with the previous model.
In fact, as I explain in this post, it might be Daemon which should be guilty:

Anyone is using RNM 4.0/4.10 + Daemon Tools 3.16 (enabled) without any problem ?
I've just made another try with RNM 4.10, and unfortunately I got a coaster one more time, even with clean config !
So RNM has really a problem with on some configurations, I don't know more about that.
So now I'm burning all my DVD+R with Nero 5.5.9.6 and everything is fine. |
