Interlacing Issues

I've recently bought the complete series of an anime known as Mermaid Forest on DVD. After watching the whole series I decided to encode all the episodes. The source was great, not much filtering was needed, but things turned ugly when I made it to Volume 2. The interlacing was just horrible, and the encode was filled with mouth comb everywhere and some very ugly scenes. I used TMPGEnc for the first volume, so instead of selecting Motion prioritized on the IVTC I chose Flicker, which gave me slightly better results. But the encode is still a little jerky. Here are some vids:- Using TMPGEnc (Flicker IVTC)

- Using filter: IT(fps = 24, ref = quot;TOPquot;, blend = true)

Post link to unprocessed source material.

maybe volume 2 was encoded without auto-IVTC enabled?  this happens all the time (it's sub-optimal, but for a backup you should be fine just IVTC'ing it).

Do you know of a tool that can clip vob files so that I can upload only a section of the vobs? A bit like DVD2AVI, but afterwards you don't need the vobs to play the quot;d2v'.

EDIT* Mug Funky: Does this mean I have to manually IVTC the 2nd volume?

it's usually good to use an ivtc function like telecide even if DGindex reports a high amount of film.  sometimes an edit can jump up and bite you, then force film becomes less than ideal.

but a sample would be good.

you can cut samples out of vobs with chopperXP or neuron's DGindex (DVD2AVI quot;remasteredquot; essentially).  it has a quot;save projects and demux videoquot; feature, with the ability to set in and out points.

I use DGIndex   I just didn't know it could do anything else but create .d2v files from VOB files. I'll have the vobs up in a couple of hours.

bump, any news on this?

assumetff()
telecide(post=2,vthresh=35)
decimate()

There are a few frames that get deinterlaced instead of field-matched, but that is because there are orphaned fields in the source.

I tried that, but the results are worse;

Arrgh, what should I do?

I hate to bring this up but I believe this is a rule #6 violation. The domain he's hosted those samples on is an anime DVD rip group. If you look on their quot;projectsquot; page you'll see Mermaid Forest listed and Xicor as the encoder.

I apologize if I'm wrong. Feel free to delete the post, strike me and hatem me forever, but I'll take the bet.

And P.S., the series is 13 episodes long baka, at least my LEGIT DVD set is.

You are right. Xicor, pay attention next time. Thread closed.
