Lost all codecs I think from using XviD uninstaller

I wanted to upgrade my current version of XviD and I noticed that after I uninstalled it that every audio and video codec on my system is now gone from windows. When checking Koepi's site it says that his uninstaller mistakenly removes all VFW codec information and to not use his uninstaller, unforunuately I read this too late, is there any way to recover this information without reinstalling windows? I am alot of video and audio playback problems now.

Yeah, use Search.

Seems like there was a registry fix on Koepi's site but the link is dead now, does anyone still have the regfix.zip from his site?

from a previous thread on this

You can try this though: guides/Ho...ws_XP_2000.htm
Well I reinstalled as many codecs as I could using that site, but for some reason I am still missing audio in some applications. It seems anything that uses Directshow will work but anything that uses the Wave mapper will not work. The Sound Recorder that comes with windows has a greyed out play button and Sound Forge gives an error saying the device does not support the playback of the file, Virtualdub will not play simple PCM audio anymore either..

I opened up Winamp and chose the WaveOut output instead of DirectSound and here's what came up in the list:
It looks like a corrupt entry somewhere and Windows is trying to use that when it is not using DirectSound, does anyone have any idea how I can get rid of that?

format and reinstall. trying to repair the registry is beyond difficult.

before you mess around too much you might better contact koepi to provide a mirror for his fix or for someone else to do this

Before formatting, you can try using CrapCleaner gt; Issues to remove Registry entries pointing to missing dll's ect

And you can use Codec Sniper to delete codecs.
Then try an quot;all in onequot; one codec pack to roughly patch the holes.
If all that works, use CrapCleaner gt; Tools to quickly access Add/Remove programs and remove unwanted codecs
Then use CrapCleaner gt; Issues again to remove leftover shortcuts etc.

Handy bit of freeware .. It also cleans crap out of your system like browser cache etc :-)

Wow, I used CrapCleaner and Codec Sniper to delete all the bad entries and it worked, thanks alot.
