Slow DVD/MPEG-4 playback on 450 MHz AMD-K6-3D processor PC
Hey guys,
my girlfriend has a 450 MHz AMD-K6-3D processor PC with 512 MB RAM and an ELSA ERAZOR X GeForce 256 graphics card with 32 MB RAM. OS is Win XP.
The playback of DVD's/MPEG-4 is not very satisfying. The video is juddering and that is why audio and video are not always synch.
What are your recommendations for a fluent playback (besides hardware upgrades)?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Bye.
I had nearly the same hardware for years, the best I can offer is to use a fast decoder (ffdshow and coreavc), no post-processing, remux into mkv (for sync), and re-encode videos to be a max of 360x240 and 400-500 kbps (probably much less with avc, and no cabac). DVD is probably a lost cause. Make sure it's using the video card's overlay mode in ffdshow.
A used Dell P4 could go for $200 or less. =p
mirror/mplayer/
Mplayer, a/v will be in sync, but if CPU too slow, frames will be dropped
or
videolan
both of them use the same ffmpeg like ffdshow, and should be slightly faster |
