I'm using 1.08.1 pro. I set up a batch job last night that included Splash NTSC region 1. I usually use ingburn and ISOs to do my burning but instead of cut/paste I hit delete instead so I resorted to Nero to burn the dvdfiles.
Nero checked the bup amp; ifo and complained about them not being identical. I cancelled out of that and used ingtool to burn the disk. I came back to the project later and wondered about what was going on with the .ifo differences.
Running fc /b in a command window on the files confirmed that the .ifo and the bup were truely different, albeit one byte. I ran fc on the original .ifo and .bup and they were correctly identical.
FC returned:

thank you for the new release and the fix for VTS_01_0.IFO/.BUP but with the Movie quot;STEALTHquot; R2 where VTS_01_0.IFO/.BUP _and_ VTS_11_0.IFO/.BUP were different with RB-1.08.1 (see my post from yesterday, 2nd example) VTS_11_0.IFO/.BUP are still different with RB-1.09 and Nero complains about this:

I sent you the two files DVD-RB produced.
I copied the DVD-files to my harddisk using AnyDVD and let DVD-RB process these files.
I just looked at the files... VTS_11_0.IFO is not a legal IFO. It is a zero filled file. Most probably there has been an error in the RIP (or in your case quot;copyquot;), or that file was never actually meant to be referenced and is designed to return an error as a part of the disc's copy protection.
Is there any chance you may have missed that file (VTS_11_0.IFO) when you copied?
Could you send me the original VTS_11_0.IFO AND VTS_11_0.BUP so I can look at them as well? Make sure it is the ones from the SOURCE directory.

The chances that DVD-RB is the cause of this is exceptionally small... because it only writes to certain parts of the IFO file and this one is hosed end-to-end. In fact, looking at this one (via the BUP) it appears that unless you've set the VTS_MIN_SIZE variable to something exceptionally small, DVD-RB wouldn't even touch it.
So I'm going to go out on a limb and do a little long distance diagnosis.
Either the VTS_11_0.IFO file is corrupt on the original disc, or it was corrupted in the copy. One of the problems with working with quot;error basedquot; protection scheme (as AnyDVD must do) is that sometimes it will misread true errors as quot;protectionquot;. So one of these is probably true:
1. The IFO file is purposefully zeroed on the original as a type of copy protection. (Least likely)
2. AnyDVD read the file and misinterpreted it as a protected sector. (more likely)
3. Your drive experienced an error reading the file and AnyDVD decided it must be protection and returned null sectors. (most likely). It could be from a scratch or even a drive problem. I'm leaning toward the drive, because you posted two experiences with this in this thread -- and the problem I fixed only happened on very rare occasions and very specific circumstances.

I had a look at the source IFO/BUP file on my hard disc and indeed the .IFO contains only empty characters.
As I did not know that DVD-RB normally doesn't touch IFO/BUPs and as there was this error with vts_01_0.ifo/.bup I thought it was DVD-RBs fault.
As the disc is a red coloured disc from sony with arccos protection it might come from the protection (or from my drive starting to die as AnyDVD never failed in the past, at least with shrink or CloneDVD).
No... you were on the right track, it just wasn't the case this time. DVD-RB does modify some IFO/BUP files -- but by default it doesn't process those that are smaller than a preset minimum VTS size (because the savings wouldn't justify the action). But even for the ones it modifies the changes are made only to certain parts of the IFO/BUP -- so zeroing out an entire IFO would be unlikely.
you can temporarily disable anydvd and rerip just those files with dvddec. (you may have to temporarily turn off its sector protection mode as well). it will usually keep ripping at the files until it can give you a clean version.
oddly enough the next dvd i try this happens. (i actually wasnt using dvdrb but noticed a similar problem) it seems these are fake (unreferenced) ifos as part of some arccos like protection. anydvd is zeroing them out. its not your drive . disabling anydvd and ripping with dvddec gets you a normal ifo.. but then of course with anydvd off, the main feature structure protection isnt being fixed.
since anydvd doesnt touch the .bup so you get the inconsistancy between .bup and .ifo..
