Can't back up Pride and Prejudice R1

First time this happens, I'm trying to back up my Pride and Prejudice Region 1 DVD with AnyDVD (latest version).  

DVDShrink gives me a cycle redundancy error at VTS_01_4.VOB

Disk is new so no scratch.  I even went and exchanged it today at the store.  Same result.

Tried ripping it with DVD Decrypter, DVD Fab decrypter, AnyDVD Ripper.  They all block at the same place. VTS_01_4.VOBNew copy protection program? Anybody else having that problem?

I can only tell you that I had absolutely no difficulty ripping the Region 1 version of quotride and Prejudicequot; with DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4. (In quot;Filequot; mode, select quot;ALLquot; files)

The DVD I purchased does NOT contain any newer copy protection...

You might want to run a DVD/CD cleaning disc on your DVD reader. Maxell make sone that sells for approximately $10US...

I sent the IFO file to slysoft.

DVD reader is fine and working with every single other DVD I have.

A few points, none of which will result in you being able to make a good copy:

1) The poster at the link you provided doesn't indicate the Region of the DVD

2) That same poster indicates a quot;bad sector(s)quot; error, not necessarily a CRC error

3) This could be the result of a quot;bad pressingquot; - There have been postings here and at other forums indicating several instances of major DVD releases with some quot;bad pressingsquot;, starting with the Star wars quothantom Menacequot; DVD.

I'm guessing this (quot;bad pressingquot;) is the applicable situation for you. 4) Publishers have, on occasion, released the same TITLE with different protection schemes in different areas - even different protection schemes for different countries within the same Region. I believe quot;Closerquot; Region 2 was the earliest example of this.

Yep. You're right.  Bad pressing is what I'm leaning towards too.  DVD hung at same place while watching it in both DVD reader on PC and on my standalone DVD player.  So bad batch of DVDs released.

Guess it's going back to the shop tomorrow and I'll buy it later.

I'd suggest you ask for a REFUND for the defective (The original doesn't play properly - and they can check it themselves) DVD - and, if possible, purchase from another location or, perhaps, from Amazon or the like...

if you rip with DVDdecrypter, note the sector number where you get the stuffup.  if you can find another copy of this disc, try it again, and if it fails on the same sector, you can be certain it's a replication error.

does the disc play on a standalone alright?  if it plays alright it might even be copy protection, but i doubt it.

whatever the problem is, try to inform the people that authored the disc - they'll probably already know, but it helps to know just how many people are having problems, and what devices they are using.

lately DVD replication has been getting sort of dodgy.  perhaps there's too much pressing going on for not enough money?  maybe it's because the preferred mastering method has moved from DLTs to DDP images burnt to DVD-R discs? (the latter is SO MUCH cheaper and more efficient, but it involves macintoshes so there's bound to be problems). maybe it's unscrupulous behaviour from almost all replication plants vis-a-vis using cheap/inferior materials or methods?  who can tell?  but expect to see a few more problems like this...

I had a problem with pride and prejudice and a couple of the new sony dvds but clone dvd 2 with any dvd running in the background works everytime with them all MAKE SURE   its the latest any dvd  and there isnt anything that cant be ripped and copied .....TONIBONI

Ripped (ISO mode) R1 with DVD Decrypter v3.5.4.0 with no problems here as well...

Glad to hear that the exchange resolved your problem. As I said in my initial post to this thread, bad pressings are becoming more frequent...

Had the same problem with a few of the ACCROS protected DVD's.

I think it was Setarip_old who suggested trying to play the movie first amp; then pause it before opening up your ripping program...
This works for me everytime!!!
Only use Free DVD,DVD Decrypter,DVD FAB, amp; Shrink.

Afraid it wasn't me, at least NOT regarding copy protection, as that has nothing to do with overcoming copy protection - it's just a way to quot;unlockquot; some (older) drives...
