Using Dummy Vobs to Replace Extras replace, contain, created, higher, files

If I want to strip the extras on my backup copy of my DVD's (so that I can transcode at a higher bitrate), can I replace these files with any other vob file of a much smaller size so that the DVD does not contain dead links (that are created when you strip out extras and don't edit the associated ifo files with these extras).

Can this be done????
