Streaming

I'm ready to work on my streaming project again.. and it's a been a year plus since I worked on it/did the research..

I read about streamplug about one year ago and it seemed pretty decent for the job.. (a little buggy) but I wanted to double check that it was the right way to go..

I would like to stream XVID or DIVX to preserve video quality and I don't really care much if the streams are CD-R Size to 1.5 Gb the real question is.. how much mbit/upload do you need for a 700 Mb movie or a 1.5 Gb movie?? I'm guessing you guys probably can't help answer that one but I'll ask anyway..

Again I want to know about mbit/movie size and I'd also like to know if streamplug is or is not the real way to go.. I have to say that I want to stay far AWAY from proprietary formats such as Real and I believe proprietary formats such as WMV and generally stay away from Apple cause they generally screw things up..

But I'm open if you guys have a suggestion towards streaming, while I haven't tested streamplug in a while I do remember that it works with little fuss and no server end (I think the server end just complicates things but maybe I'm wrong)

The server I plan to stream will be *nix for the record.. and it would be awesome if there was a movie automated stream program/like a copy of what gallery does for pictures
