Changing the aspect ratio on a mpeg2 file

Just a quick one - I've got some mpeg2 recordings from an application that recorded them in widescreen (720x576) but incorrectly set the aspect ratio to 4:3 which is causing problems when trying to author on to a DVD without having it horizontally compress the video when I tell it to output 16:9.

Is there an easy way to do this?  Or is a better way to author it to DVD, change the DAR of the DVD to 1.77 and then burn?

Thanks!

Look for DVDPatcher in the download section of will allow you to change the AR without having to reencode the whole file.

Awesome!  I ended up using IfoEdit to change the DAR on the DVD image I had on hd before burning off to dvd, but this little utility will fix up my existing AR mpeg file problems that you otherwise need to get your player to compensate for.  Thanks!
