TMPGEnc cut and merge locks in edit
I did read the guide in vcdhelp but nothing works to get TMPGEnc edit svcd to work. Soon as I do any clicking it freezes and needs to be ctrl/alt/del. The numbers may work, but it would be nice to be able to actually use the editor vusually. Anybody know how?
Here's how much will work and how.
It is very sensitive so be careful, do not click around unnecessarly.
Open TMPGENc, cancel the wizard, file, MPEG tools, merge amp; cut, SVCD-2 Super Video CD (VBR), that's the one used here to cut 480x480 SVCD files,
Add, Have your files already in the My Documents folder, select one file, for Output - Browse, type a name and the .mpg extension, save.
Double click on the file name that you added, Careful now...
gt; quot;playquot;, ll quot;pausequot;, during play you may press { for the in point or press it first then gt; quot;playquot;, both did work for me, you could pause then press the inpoint marker, during play I press { then at the end of a scene or just before it ends so it doesn't go too far I press } on the fly, OK, Run. It saves the selected area.
You must play the entire selection, do not scrub, do not move the place marker, do not click back or forward one frame, do not click a number up or down more than one time for only one number, it usually takes one click before freezing up.
When it freezes up, because you clicked too many things too many times, press Ctrl/Alt/Del, End Task, End Task, and try again.
That is why your file is in the My Documents forder since it always goes there first.
If you happen to succeed, you may return to the file by double clicking on the added file name; the marker will begin at your old in point, press play 'gt;' and hit '{' on the fly just after the old out point at the start of the next scene. This it will do over and over again.
It is rather like editing with two VHS decks or a VCR camera and a Deck using the two finger editing method of long ago.
Joining all the cuts together. Add, Add, Add, Add, in the proper order, name a file to save to and be sure to add the .mpg extension. Each file may be further edited or cut by double clicking on the name, press { at the start and } at the end if you started too soon or ended too late the first time, one after another may be trimmed in this way.
A file that is very very short, just a few seconds, this will not work for and may require you to reboot, however, the joined final project took alright and played after the reboot.
Run the join project with all the new edit points entered and the SVCD will play. Each joint will have an artifact. On low volumn it will be very slight. Turn up the volumn and you will hear a squeek or a pop or a silent drop out at each joint.
The file may be sinple demultiplexed, the audio entered into the main window under audio, under file, the file may be saved as a wave, entered into Premiere, audio artifacts repared, exported, then remultiplexed in bbMPEG and even Nero will burn it. Nero will NOT like it if TMPGEnc plexes it back together.
I'm using the full ver of TMPGEnc 2.58 Plus, and have successfully created sample files of my svcds. However I remember on my first try there was no picture preview, but this did not prevent me from creating the sample by simply inputting the time frames manually. On my next try on a different svcd there was a picture preview and when I inputted the time frame manually and hit ok, TMPGEnc would close.
After a few attempts I tried simply using the slider and {} to cutamp;merge my sample and this seemed to work in this case.
Now I'm facing the same dilemma once again of TMPGEnc closing after selecting my scene and hitting the OK button. The difference is now no matter what method I employ to cutamp;merge it still closes. BTW I am getting a preview.
My system is XP Pro w/sp1, AMD Athlon 1600 w/768MB's PC2100 memory. Any suggestions would be greatful.

Hi
can anyone tell me what the correct button does?
Yes I have found that on the odd ocassion I can get the software to edit an svcd but I can repeat the problem.
The other suggesions people have made about clicking probably answers my questions.. i think you will have to play to find out exactly which keys work, and the ones the make it hang.
Although in the beginning I had to incorporate different methods. I haven't experienced any difficulties since.
I did of course did the usual uninstall\re-install and have upgraded to the latest build.
all is well
It seems to me that if you cannot use the
slide when a vob or an mpeg file is palying
on WMP in your computer, you cannot edit
mpeg files using TMPGEnc.
It uses the filters available on your
computer to perform some functions of the
edition menu.
I think I read it on the program's manual.
That's my guess.
Dear o0RaidR0o
I am interested to hear what DVD player you have on your pc. It appears that the installed mpeg2 codec can make a difference. This is my guess, hopefully someone with a better understanding of tmpgenc can clarify this.
Jeff
Um... TMPGEnc when I try to use the cut feature, appears to lock up, but in fact, it's working... Just give it like a few minutes and it'll go to the next phase. (Seeks, then gets video, then audio, then multiplexes, then scans offesets[? I think that's what the last one was].)
As for preview with the cut feature, I think you need to proper mpeg2 directshow filters to be able to preview. So if you have them on your computer now, then it'll work.
Hi Leon McNichol
Thanks for the reply. I have downloaded and installed Ligo directshow drivers. It hasnt made any difference to V2.59 free version (I also have the Plus version).
I am interested to hear what version of TMPGENC you are using? What DVD player is installed on your pc to play dvd/svcd/vcd?
Thanks
Jeff
's decoder/players list. Don't install all the codecs. I've found the audio ones can cause certain problems with decoding. Especially with dual audio svcds as well as avis alone. It's been a while, so you'll have to figure out which ones are needed.
I also have the m2v.vfp plugin for tmpgenc, which may or may not help. I'm not sure on that one.
[Edit] Forgot the players. I have both WinDVD and PowerDVD on my computer. I don't use them that much, just to test. (Have a standalone for that.) I use Zoom Player for any playback I want. |
