Problem ripping Twilight Zone Vol. 30 with SmartRipper
Hi all,
I've successfully made backups of several of the earlier discs in the Twilight Zone series, but Vol. 30 and several of the later titles have been giving me problems. My general method is to rip the entire disc using SmartRipper in Backup mode, then burn to DVD-R with RecordNow Max in Data Disc mode. This method has worked perfectly with the earlier Twilight Zone titles. But when I play my backup of Vol. 30 on my standalone, the picture freezes during the closing credits of the first episode.
I decided to re-rip the disc; but this time I would watch the ripping process very carefully (I usually just start it and then do something else). I noticed that when SmartRipper got to VTS_04_3.VOB (the final VOB file of the first episode, about 30 meg is size) it said that the file was not encrypted and then proceeded to copy the file to the harddrive. When the ripping was complete, I tried to play the files directly from the harddrive using both WinDVD and the IfoEdit player. They both froze during the closing credits just as my standalone had.
It appears that VTS_04_3.VOB corresponds to the closing credits of the first episode, and that SmartRipper is incorrectly determining that the file is not encrypted; it then copies the (still-encrypted) file to the harddrive, which causes all DVD players to choke.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. I'm using SmartRipper 2.41 on XP, if that helps.
Try to rip title 4 separately in the quot;filequot; mode. Key check - once.
Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, it didn't work I ripped title 4 in file mode with quot;key check - oncequot;, then ripped the rest of the files in file mode as well. But the resulting files would not play at all in WinDVD (wouldn't even start up), and they caused the IfoEdit player to freeze up completely, requiring a reboot to get out of it.
Oh well, maybe some things are just not meant to be. I'm about ready to give up. Thanks for taking the time to respond, tho.
What access mode are you using? Try to switch in the quot;normalquot; mode.
you might have already done this, but have you checked asking for a key every vob? or every chapter?
Does it look to you as if there is a dvd problem? I had once rented Das Experiment and the player was freezing in a certain point. And the DVD player and Smart Ripper, so I suppose it was a dvd problem.
So, does it play well? that is, the original DVD.

Yes, that is what I originally tried.

The original DVD plays fine on both my standalone and my PC, so this definately appears to be some kind of ripping problem.

Tried that, it didn't work either.
OK, I suppose I should ask: would it do me any good to install ASPI and try that? I haven't installed ASPI yet because a) I don't know what it is or what it does and b) SmartRipper has always worked fine without it and c) I'm very reluctant to mess around with the drivers on my PC!
But, if I have reason to believe that ASPI might solve my problem, I'll consider it.
I don't remember much about ASPI, but I have it installed and I never had a problem. I consider you should try this, since everything else failed. You never know...
Have you already tried DVD Decrypter? Same result?
Enable 'Detect Mastering Errors' in the settings and try ripping.

That did it!!! DVDDecrypter has succeeded where SmartRipper failed! Thanks, LIGHTNING UK! |
