Making a DVD from files in HD
Hi, PROs.
I am going to back-up my own McKenna#8217;s Gold. Here are two scenarios:
1. I#8217;ve just copied the VIDEO_TS folder in my hard drive by dragging and dropping.
2. In another folder in my hard drive, I#8217;ve used a now-extinct venerable program to decrypt the main movie.
Now, I understand that just burning them on a DVD-blank will not produce a DVD. From those two sources in my hard drive, How do I recreate a DVD that my standalone Pioneer will play? I have Nero 7 Premium, and most other programs named in Doom9's Authoring, Encoding and Back-up guides.
I#8217;ve tried to go through the guides, but not knowing enough was the reason why I couldn#8217;t get cogent answers. Reminds me my days of backing up my VCDs, and then XviD encoding of my DVDs. After a lot of hassles and help by the PROs in these fora, these are no problems any more.
Thanks and regards.

Actually, depending on how u ripped it, it will or not.
1. I’ve just copied the VIDEO_TS folder in my hard drive by dragging and dropping.
This can be interpreted as the DVD is IN your HD with everything it has on it, so u can use a soft like SmartRipper, click the quot;folderquot; icon on the top-right wich will prompt you to select the VIDEO_TS folder where the movie is (wich instead of being in the DVD, is in your HD). That will load the entire DVD structure. Then select quot;Backupquot; (not Movie nor Files) and select the destination folder with the quot;folderquot; icon on the bottom-left. Click Settings --gt; this will load the Backup tab. In this tab, make sure that all the options in Options are selected (Region Free, Demacrovision, etc.) and hit OK.
Now hit Start. The ripping process will begin. THIS (all of these steps) is done because u copied the files straight from the DVD, so it´s reading the files from the HD as it would from the DVD and copying then quot;intoquot; the HD. If u were to load the DVD, SmartRipper would detect the DVD automatically, u select Backup, and destination, and Start.
Once u get the backed-up VIDEO_TS folder, open Nero Burning Rom, select DVD-Video as burning media, drag-dop the files from VIDEO_TS on the HD to the compilation on the DVD (drag the files, not the VIDEO_TS folder, cause if u do, it will drag the folder into the compilation´s VIDEO_TS and u will have a root VIDEO_TS that wouldn´t contain the files but another VIDEO_TS folder inside, therefore the DVD will not play as DVD-Video).
Hi!
Here's a third scenario, which avoids the uncertainties related to your two scenarios:
Use DVD Shrink to rip, and if necessary compress, your original, purchased DVD as an .ISO image file.
Then use either DVD Decrypter or ingBurn or NERO to burn the .ISO image file...
Yes, I expect there could be an umpteen number of scenarios to an expert. For me, one at a time.
Mr wonderbra has told me what to do with my VIDEO_TS folder that I have staright copied from my DVD. Let me digest that.
Mr setarip_old has some advice on the lines of my second scenario in another thread. I'll try and digest that also.
Will, of course, post again.
Addition 1 Mar 07 2006:
Hi, wonderbra. I've used SmartRipper 2.41 the way you have described. The resulting video_ts folder had similar-named-files with exactly same file-sizes as my parent VIDEO_TS folder in my HD. So what's the difference? What makes the ripped ones usable in Nero and the copied one not? Is this the removal of the different protections?
Addition 2 Mar 07 2006:
Yes, my DVD works exactly as my original! Thank you, wonderbra. I can now back-up my DVD5s as necessary. Just backup the Video_Ts folder of my DVD with SmartRipper, and write in DVD-Video mode of Nero Burning Rom.
Next I'll have to see what I can do with the files I decrypted with DVDDecrypter in IFO mode.
Regards.
Is this the removal of the different protections?
Your basically removing the hassle of those protections.
Glad to hear it worked for you. |
