Converting Mp4 to DivX

I am having trouble converting a MP4 file to avi (DivX). I have tried the guide on videoHelp but it results in a file that has serious audio/video sync issues. It did it without re-encoding which would be preferable. I could not find any guide on Doom9 to do this. Does anyone have any recommendations on how I can accomplish this?

Sorry that this doesn't seem too helpful at first, but why are you trying to do this?  If it's for a hardware player then you would be better off keeping the MP4 (also telling us why will enable us to help you better).  In my opinion it would be better to keep it as MP4 since it's the native container and doesn't require hacks like AVI/VfW.

If for my DVD player that only plays DivX/XDiv files in avi containers.

results in a file that has serious audio/video sync issues.

Load the file into VirtualDub, VirtualDubMod, or NanDub.
Set BOTH quot;Videoquot;(VirtualDub, VirtualDubMod and NanDub) and quot;Audioquot;
(VirtualDub and NanDub - VirtualDubMODgt;quot;Streamsgt;quot;Stream listquot;) to quot;Direct Stream Copyquot;.

A) If the difference between audio and video is constant throughout the

video:

From the quot;Audioquot; dropdown menu, select quot;Interleavingquot; (For

VirtualDubMOD, rightclick on the listed audiostream and then select

quot;Interleavingquot;)
Under quot;Audio skew correctionquot;, set an appropriate number of

milliseconds (positive or negative) in the box labelled quot;Delay audio track

byquot;
Save with a new filenameB) If the difference increases as the movie plays:

From under the quot;Videoquot; dropdown menu, select quot;Frameratequot; - and

select quot;Change so video and audio durations matchquot;
Save with a new filename

A big thanks to you setarip_old. The sound was running further and further out of sync as the video played. So B) did the trick and it is playing fine now  I have never really messed around much with VirtualDub and it's derivatives only really replacing soundtracks and joining videos mainly. Thanks again.

A big thanks to you setarip_old.

As always, my pleasure ;gt;}
