Need to update my nVIDIA TNT2 driver....help
Today when I was capturing video to my hard drive today my computer rebooted after about 45 minutes into a 2 hour capture.
As soon as the desktop came back up, an MS Windows Error message appeared that said,
quot;Computer restarted after an unexpected shutdown. MS Windows detected a possible device problem. The driver for the display device was unable to complete a drawing operation. Please check with the device manufacturer for a device update. Please tell MS about this problem. The display driver for nVIDIA RIVA TNT2 model 64(HP) seems to be responsible for the system instabilityquot;.
My HP Pavilion 7955 came with the nVIDIA driver installed so nVIDIA is now telling me they don't support it and can't provide an undated driver.
This is the third time I have gotten a reboot while capturing video to my hard drive.
Can someone tell me where I can get an undated driver for my nVIDIA RIVA TNT2 model 64(HP)? I would appreciate any kind of help with this. Thanks.
You might first want to check to see if your system is simply overheating...

How do I do that setarip? I was wondering about that myself.
Is there a tool that allows me to see the temperature? Would I be looking at the cpu temp or what?
Thanks
Motherboard Monitor works with most boards and can even alert you if the temp rises too high; I loved it for my old system. How high is too high depends on your chip and where the probe is, but pushing it too hard again (try prime95) and finding out where it dies is one good way. If it's not the cpu, it could be ram, flaky card, driver, or who knows what else. Unfortunately the hp support site doesn't have any updates for the TNT, but it does have something for bios. And supposedly current forcewares support all the way back to TNT2, so if you're brave you can try the official drivers (Omega tends to drop old cards).
just this week, i'd install the exact, same video card on my friend's pc
ignore the driver link foxyshadis provided you, it's worthless, even though the video card is listed in the readme.txt, it ain't supported
after some research, it's said, the most up-to-date driver is this: object/winxp_2k_61.77.html
there could be newer drivers, but i don't really wish to waste anymore time on trial amp; error
foxyshadis, please do not conside that a insult or a flame; you give some discretion that it might not work, i'm just stating the fact that it won't work (from experience); then again, video card models do come in many variations
That's fine, I was just going by the site since I can't test. Good to know!
I'll give it another try after I download the updated driver (some else told me to use the 71.89 driver....guess there is a later one that works (or not)).
I downloaded quot;Everestquot; and it shows you the cpu temperature.
If the updated driver doesn't do the trick, I'll leave the case open and use a fan and watch the temperature.
And if that doesn't work.....I'll be back with more questions.
Thanks guys....you've been very helpful and I appreciate it. |
