DVD-RB amp; QuEnc. New version

Can I put the new version of QuEnc (v.61) in the QuEnc folder of
DVD-RB?

Would this action cause problems within Rebuider?

Regards,

I haven't tested it yet... but you won't loose anything on testing it as long as you keep a copy of the version you are using.

I think I will wait until I get the quot; All Clearquot; signal from youor jdobbs.  I can wait a few days.
I don't need the headache if there is a conflict.

Regards

I just did Barton Fink with DvD-BR.92PRo and QuEnc .61 2 pass HQ. No problems except that it came in at 3.71Gb undersized, this is with  target sectors set at 2269500. QuEnc.59B2 has consistantly worked well for me.

HC.14 comes in oversized at 4.44Gb (target sectors at 2258000) while good old DVDShrink comes in at 4.36Gb just like a clock. Others have noted that HC.14 tends to overshoot and I certainly agree.

There shouldn't be any problem with new QuEnc (I.e. it will be just as compatible with DVD-RB as far as I know).

Thanks for any info on the new ratecontrol. It's usually very good at getting the target size right. Especially on the small tests I have done. I'll keep an eye on it.

That wouldn't happen if you use the default setting in dvd-rb... can't blame the enocoder if you made the mess.
I have NEVER had HC .14 over or undersize anything at the default setting... 4.33/34 like clock work.
As for QuEnc .61.. did Dodgeball and Pitch Black (Dir Cut) both 4.33g

Now you left me wandering how could hc relate to dvdshrink...   I guess it doesn't

What Matrix do you use with QuEnc or HC14?

I tried a few and had good results with quot;Kika Cimic Highquot;. Any comments would be welcome.

Which matrix... it depends on what material you using, movie/film or TV series, cartoon/anime, high bitrate/low bitrate, progressive/interlaced......I find quot;Kika Cimic Highquot; works well for cartoon/anime and extremely high bitrates very similar to quot;Smooth (CG)quot;.... most of the time the default matrix for both HC and QuEnc work well, for mid to mid/low bitrates (4000k to 3000k) you might try quot;QLBquot; by dragongodz or quot;BACH1quot; by DDogg.... But now we are getting a little OT

Ok, I reinstalled DVD-rb w/ Rockas .91 installer, new ini with no target sectors (or any modifications). Overlaid DVD-RB with .92 PRO version, using QuEnc.61 2 pass with  all other defaults (no Trellis,no HQ, no matrix, no stealing from extras). Resulting VIDEO_TS was 3.78Gb.
QuEnc.59b2 also comes out undersized. As I mentioned earlier, HC.14 best mode with defaults comes out at 4.44 with this test movie.

I disabled a couple of audio tracks and extras in DvdReMake and maybe DVD-RB thinks they are still there, even though they don't show up in the DVD-RB window.

Correct sizing is the only issue that I have with DVD-RB. Sometimes it is great...

Try ReJig... it will come in exactly also... transcoders don't have to worry about this stuff.  Of course on the other hand, they often look worse than the 3.71GB encoder output...

Oldeman, have you tried not preprocessing with DvdRemake? You can disable the unwanted audio in dvdrb.

Try not doing any preprocessing and let DVD-RB remove the unwanted tracks likes winny said.... most of the time under/oversizing seems like it's caused by preprocessing.... if you keep get the same problem, don't preprocessing... see if it helps.

Here is log and excerpts from Barton Fink 3.78Gb DVD-RB.92 Quenc.61 2 pass (defaults only), no TargetSectors run.

DVD-RB shows 4172Kb for video(1 big VTS). There is one audio track of 162Mb and about 64Mb of menus with a movie reduction ratio of 66% as reported by DVDShrink.

Did I screw up to come in at 3.78Gb?

Are you saying that 3.78Gb-242Mb is reasonably close to 4,172Kb?

I know that transcoder sizing is easier to predict. If I didn't want best quality, I wouldn't even be using DVD-RB. All I'm saying is that on some movies DVD-RB gives great sizing and on some it does not.
Changing TargetSectors is the only thing I know that will affect sizing...If there is anything I/We can do to improve sizing let us know... [01:12:19] One Click encoding activated...

As the new DVD-RB PRO v.93 has the QuEnc v.61 in it my original question is now moot.
