How can we check MPEG4 options in the stream?
I am sorry if i managed to miss this topic, but... here's the question.
Is there any program capable of checking avi-files for the presence of MPEG-4 stream options and gathering its statistics, such as QPel and GMC, peak bitrate and so on?
I guess it would be nice to check video-files for the compatibility with some certain MPEG-4 hardware players, before revealing annoying things while watching films.
Do a search of the forum for MPEG4 Modifier. It's an excellent program that will let you know the most important stats concerning things that can cause problems for hardware players (depending on player), like packed bitstream, gmc, qpel, b-frames and even the custom matrix used, if any.
The program will allow you to unpack the packed bitstream which is handy if you have a mediatek based player (will prevent a jerky playback.)
Thank you! =)
You can do it with ffdshow too whilst watching. Just check OSD in the settings menu.
Well I just looked at the OSD setting in ffdshow and whilst it's has some pretty handy options there's nothing there that will tell you whether QPEL, GMC, PACKED BITSTREAMS have been used........ so it's pretty useless for what the original poster wanted.... though it does display bitrate.

I rest my case
ok ok, I now feel silly
I couldn't get it to do that... will mess
Ah i see, can't go to hard on me as I didn't have the 27th May version, got it now, much better.
Trouble is it doesn't tell you whether it uses packed bitstreams, maybe in a later version to come... |
