alternative software for Mustek UPS ??
I bought a Mustek Powermust600 USB UPS recently and it is working fine, but the software is crap... well what can you expect for 45 EUR?
The software that originally came with the UPS was WinPower 1.0 and it wouldn't even install because it wanted to install to c:\winpower - but c:\ is my boot partition and it's only 8MB...
I found WinPower 2.0 on the web and it installed fine. It also does what it's supposed to do (monitor the UPS and, in case of power outage, shut down the system) but it's clumsy Java software that uses at least 30MB of memory and - what makes it unusable - sometimes freezes my system.
Is there any other software or windows driver that will work with the Mustek Powermust600 USB UPS? The default Windows driver doesn't work, I already tried that (with standard settings for quot;otherquot; UPS'es)
apcupsd
Seems promising (I have never d/led anything bad from Sourceforge so far ).
The only problem I see is that it supports USB on Linux only and not on WinXP. My Mustek UPS does have an RS232 port, but that didn't work with the winpower software - I don't even know if the motherboard's serial port is working at all, I have never used it so far.
It's gonna be hard trying to configure that linux-like driver while both the UPS's or the system's serial port might not be working correctly
I'm gonna try anyways - thanks (maybe I get back to you with some questions on the config...) |
